Clermont State Historic Site presents ‘Get Into The Spirit(ualism) of Halloween’ on October 4th.

Join Clermont’s School Program Coordinator Emily Robinson as she examines the history of the Spiritualist Movement. This movement led to the early 20th century popularity of activities like seances, tarot cards, and Ouija boards.  And it began right here in New York! Come join us to learn about some spooky local history.

PLEASE NOTE: Clermont follows all NYS Department of Health guidelines for safety during the COVID 19 pandemic. Masks and social distancing will be required of all tour participants until these guidelines are lifted by New York State Parks.

Beginning this Saturday, September 5th, Time & Space Limited (TSL), in Hudson, presents The Earl Show: A Retrospective of Earl Swanigan (1964-2019).

This retrospective show of Hudson-based outsider artist, Earl Swanigan, will make available to the public many of Earl’s previously unseen works – including paintings, sculpture, furniture, and archival materials – from a variety of private collections. Certain works for sale.

The show will be on display in TSL’s renovated indoor gallery space through Sunday, October 4. Limited capacity gallery available.

The art opening this Saturday, will include socially-distant food and beverages in the parking lot. Gallery tours by advanced registration.

Big Onion Walking Tours’ Historic Hudson – In Person Tour, takes place on Saturday, August 22. The City of Hudson is much more than a quaint town in the Hudson River Valley. Founded by Quakers in 1785, Hudson quickly grew to a major commercial center and almost became the capital of New York State. Hudson offers the finest “Main Street” in New York and features examples of every architectural style since the late 18th century, including two of the rarest, Adam and Egyptian Revival.

The tour will explore the diverse social history, architecture, and people of this Upstate urban center. Stops could include: Promenade Hill, Nantucket Houses, sites associated with the Underground Railroad, the most notorious Red Light district north of Times Square, and locations associated with Thomas Jefferson, Ma Brown, Charles Dickens, Eleanor Roosevelt, Jack “Legs” Diamond, Ada Louise Huxtable, and Lieutenant William H. Allen, who was killed by pirates.

Olana Midsummer Pollinator Walk, Aug 21

Recently Olana added new Guided Tours to their outdoor offerings. 

Explore Olana’s artist-designed landscape through the perspective of pollinators. Join beekeeper Chris Layman in an hour-long guided outdoor walk and learn more about the importance of honeybees during Frederic Church’s lifetime and our own.

Chris Layman and his wife Lisa run Fox Farm Apiary, a honeybee rescue and sanctuary in the Hudson Valley. In partnership with Olana, Fox Farm maintains an apiary onsite at Olana’s farm complex. New Olana Outdoor Tours

Recently Olana added new Guided Tours to their outdoor offerings. 

Olana’s landscape and carriage roads have been open to the public and are always free to visit from 8AM to sunset. Recently Olana added new Guided Tours to their outdoor offerings.

Guided tours (walking and driving) of the historic landscape will be offered on Saturday and Sunday from 10 AM to 4 PM. Tours are limited to 14 guests.

There are four different tours including the Family Explorer Tour (a 1/4 mile-long walk with family-friendly discussion and activities), the Landscape and Architecture Tour (a 1/4 mile-long tour focusing on the integration of landscape and architecture), the Art and Environment Tour (a mile-long tour that provides a comprehensive introduction to Frederic Church’s work as an artist and landscape designer), and the Electric Carriage Tour (a five mile-long driving tour providing the most comprehensive exploration of Olana’s landscape).

  • Wear a mask covering the mouth and nose during the tour.
  • Maintain social distance (six feet) at all times.
