Monthly Handcraft Night at Drop Forge & Tool

Drop Forge & Tool hosts a monthly #HandcraftNight. June’s night will feature special guest, Jen Hewett, teacher and author of “Print, Pattern, Sew: Block-Printing Basics + Simple Sewing Projects for an Inspired Wardrobe.”

Drop Forge & Tool provides access to the creative process by providing time and space to create; opportunities to learn, practice and hone a craft; and unique events to engage, entertain, and inspire our community. With two spaces in Hudson, residencies are open to artists and makers of all disciplines, backgrounds, and skill levels, who seek time and space away from their daily lives to focus on their creative process.

Drop Forge & Tool hosts a monthly #HandcraftNight. June’s night will feature special guest, Jen Hewett, teacher and author of “Print, Pattern, Sew: Block-Printing Basics + Simple Sewing Projects for an Inspired Wardrobe.” Participants can drop in with any portable handcraft project to work on, work on one of the community quilts, and enjoy some snacks and beverages.

Because sharp tools are used, this class is limited to adult students.

Supplies: All the special tools needed will be supplied, as well as a yard of cotton muslin fabric to practice on.

The North Chatham Public Library presents Encaustic Art: Hive to Canvas – Maria Kolodziej-Zincio.

The North Chatham Public Library presents Encaustic Art: Hive to Canvas – Maria Kolodziej-Zincio. Encaustic painting, also known as hot wax painting, is an ancient art-form that involves using heated beeswax to which colored pigments are added. The liquid or paste is then applied to a surface—usually prepared wood, though canvas and other materials can be used.

Join Encaustic Artist, Maria Kolodziej-Zincio for her workshop on the process of encaustic art, and what role bees play in her fascinating new expression of an ancient Egyptian art form.

This event is made possible with public funds from the Decentralization Program of the NYS Council on the Arts, administered in Columbia County by the Greene County Council on the Arts through the Community Arts Grants Fund.

Memoir Writing Workshop at New Lebanon Library

This Thursday (March 22, 2012) the New Lebanon Library will host WRITE YOUR STORY!, a Free Memoir Writing Workshop.

“This workshop will focus on writing from personal experience, for writers of all levels. Participants will be given examples of short memoir pieces, and then work on writing exercises in response to the instructor’s prompts. Bring your own paper and pens, and be ready to share your stories!

Instructor Vivian Dorsel, editor and publisher of the literary journal Upstreet, holds a Master of Fine Arts degree in Writing from VermontCollege of Fine Arts. She has coordinated and taught writing workshops in the Berkshires for a wide range of people, from secondary-school students to senior citizens, in venues such asWord Street, Taconic High School, and the Norman RockwellMuseum, and for the first four community reading projects inPittsfield, Massachusetts.”
