Walking the dog theater Co., in partnership with Nikita Productions, is presenting William Shakespeare’s Richard II as part of their 21st anniversary celebration.

A story about identity.  Taking place during a dramatic shift in history when tradition, religion and royal lineage get disrupted, the modern age of ruling-by-might is birthed.  King Richard is a sovereign who plays at being King. Crowned at the age of 10, and surrounded by flatterers, he rules by ceremony and pillage, repeatedly claiming his righteousness as God’s anointed minister. His downfall comes when he crosses one line too many, and the consequences of his misrule and lack of self-knowledge finally come home to roost, resulting in the new order of King Henry IV.

Directed by Melania Levitsky, the play will feature live, original music and the following cast:

Blackbeard The Musical at Troy Theatre Institute at SAge

Troy NY is just a short drive to the north of Columbia County, and what better reason to visit then a musical about Blackbeard.

Troy NY is just a short drive to the north of Columbia County, and what better reason to visit then a musical about Blackbeard. A new, family-friendly musical based on the  children’s book series Backbeard and the Birthday Suit and Backbeard: Pirate for Hire by Sage faculty member, Matthew McElligott.

This rollicking musical tells the tale of Backbeard, the hairiest pirate who ever lived, and his quest to answer the question, “How should a pirate look?” When a rowdy birthday party ruins his clothes, a pair of persuasive tailors convince him to try a vibrant new outfit of patterned trousers, a colorful coat, and a pig. Can the fearsome pirate win the acceptance of the Pirate Council, the townspeople, and even his own crew? Found out in this high-spirited story of courage, acceptance, and standing up for who you are.

Book and lyrics by Matthew McElligot,  music and lyrics by Michael Musial.

Final Weekend of Our Town at Ghent Playhouse

It’s the final weekend of performances for Our Town at the Ghent Playhouse.

It’s the final weekend of performances for Our Town at the Ghent Playhouse.

Set in the fictional town of Grover’s Corners, Thornton Wilder’s masterpiece is narrated by a Stage Manager and performed with minimal props and sets, as the audience follows the Webb and Gibbs families, as their children fall in love, marry, and eventually – in one of the most famous scenes in American theater history – die.   The Ghent Playhouse is thrilled to present the playwright’s definitive version of Our Town, described by Edward Albee as “… the greatest American play ever written.”  Winner of the 1938 Pulitzer Prize for Drama.
