Basilica’s Annual 24-Hour Drone Festival is This Weekend, Apr 28 – 29, 2018

Basilica Hudson’s season opener – 24-Hour Drone Experiments in Sound & Music – is this weekend, April 28 and 29, 2018.

Basilica Hudson‘s season opener – 24-Hour Drone Experiments in Sound & Music – is this weekend, April 28 and 29, 2018. The annual festival, presented by Basilica Hudson and Le Guess Who?, is a roving, international series featuring musicians and sound artists experimenting within the spectrum of drones (sustained tones shaped by voice or instrumentation) to create 24 hours of unbroken, uninterrupted sound.

Through this expanded programming, 24-HOUR DRONE strives to break down barriers across borders, offering an opportunity to connect diverse musical communities and traditions, offering a localized snapshot of DRONE within the larger context of universal sound.

24-HOUR DRONE’s immersive and meditative nature emphasizes communion. This is a shared experience devoted to unifying players and listeners alike.

We aim to bring cultures together, demonstrating the diversity inherently present within all music. The cross-pollination of instrumentation, musical traditions and culture creates a tapestry of human experience, elevating the whole, greater than the sum of its parts. Diversity of sound links uncommon components through a seamless sonic and communal experience, with connections and dialogues opened in unexpected ways.

Bindlestiff Cirkus Winter Cabaret at Club Helsinki Hudson, Jan 20, 2018

Helsinki Hudson presents Bindlestiff Cirkus Winter Cabaret this Saturday.

Hudson’s own Bindlestiff Family Cirkus continues its wintertime tradition of hosting a monthly cabaret, featuring a variety of circus, theater, comedy and musical entertainers. Each month this winter, Bindlestiff Cirkus will bring a new lineup, with acts including trapeze, contortion, acrobatic balance, sword swallowing, juggling, physical comedy, and oddball novelty turns. The Bindlestiff stage is one of the few arenas in the world where attendees may see internationally renowned street performers, featured acts from Cirque du Soleil and Ringling Brothers, and artists from “America’s Got Talent” next to local legends, live, on stage, and in the same show.

Live music is a defining feature of Bindlestiff’s cabaret shows, with witty, original tunes by a variety of NYC’s best composers and accompanists. Bindlestiff’s unique style reflects deep roots in NYC’s underground club scene, nods to political street theater, and a steady respect for the traditions of American popular entertainment and illegitimate theater.
