The 2019 Roeliff Jansen Commuity Library, “A Party in the Park,” will be held next Saturday at the Roeliff Jansen Park. The 10th Annual Gala will celebrate Charlotte Shutts, a life-long Roe Jan resident, who has been a valued Library volunteer for 15 years. As always there will be great food from local chefs and restaurants to enjoy with tasty wines. Music will be provided by Kris Jensen’s Swinging All-Stars with vocalist Wanda Houston, presenting American Songbook selections.

Popular Gala fundraising traditions returning this year include a raffle basket, valued at $1,000. The “Hygge=Comfort” basket features a super-soft throw, a copy of “The Year of Living Danishly,” and assorted items and gift certificates.

The silent auction will include over 75 items and experiences. Information on silent auction items is on view now at the library. You can also leave an absentee bid for items at the library.

The live auction, presided over by Copake Auction’s auctioneer Seth Fallon, will include tickets to Disney’s “Frozen” on Broadway, front row seats to ABC’s “The View,” a weekend stay at the Catskill Animal Sanctuary, and three entirely different priceless culinary experiences provided by noted chefs.

Actor’s Nightmare/Carol Burnett Skits at Copake Grange, Opening Night May 10

Join the Two of Us Productions at The Copake Grange for an evening of laughs as they present a Christopher Durang one act play, “The Actor’s Nightmare” and your “Favorite Skits from The Carol Burnett Show.”

Join the Two of Us Productions at The Copake Grange for an evening of laughs as they present a Christopher Durang one act play, “The Actor’s Nightmare” and your “Favorite Skits from The Carol Burnett Show.”

The two one-act comedies include a selection of favorite Skits from the Carol Burnett Show, followed by The Actor’s Nightmare by Christopher Durang.

may_2019_single_page_poster_v1.jpg.w560h725Life is full of humor, especially when you know how to find it. The script writers from The Carol Burnett Show worked with Carol and her cast to create scene after scene of warm humor loosely based on everyday situations. They’ve made their television show scripts available for stage productions and The Two Of Us Productions is pleased to bring the classic humor of the original Carol Burnett Show to you on the stage of The Copake Grange.

The humor of Carol Burnett will be followed by another one-act comedy entitled The Actor’s Nightmare by the Obie & Tony Award winning playwright Christopher Durang. Mr. Durang is an American playwright known for works of outrageous and often absurd comedy and The Actor’s Nightmare is one of his best. Imagine falling asleep and suddenly finding yourself backstage at a theater you’ve never set foot in before & being greeted by the stage manager & several actors, all of whom think you’re the understudy for tonight’s performance. Suddenly the lights go down, you’re quickly dressed in a costume, and then the stage manager shoves you onto the stage with a hastily whispered “Break a’ leg!”. This is every actor’s nightmare and Christopher Durang brings it to hilarious life in The Actor’s Nightmare.

This pair of delicious one-act comedies features a strong & award-winning cast that includes Constance Lopez, Diane Boice-Yorck, Cyndi Miller, Karissa Payson, Amy Hausknecht, Doug Dale, Brian Yorck, and Matt Leinung. In Skits from the Carol Burnett Show all eight performers show their stuff as a performing ensemble. In The Actor’s Nightmare our asleep and dreaming George Spelvin is played by Doug Dale. Karissa Payson plays Meg, the slightly frantic stage manager. Constance Lopez, Diane Boice-Yorck and Brian Yorck portray various roles in the sequence of plays-within-a-play, including: Connie as Amanda and Diane as Sybil in a slice of Private Lives, Brian & Doug in a disjointed segment of Hamlet, Diane & Doug in an off-kilter scene of Checkmate, and Doug, Diane, Connie, Brian & Karissa in the finale snippet from A Man For All Seasons.
