The town of New Lebanon’s “Music in the Park” series takes place this Sunday during the town’s Community Picnic.

Local musician Doug Banker will be performing with The Echoes and with Linda Worster at the August 21st Music in the Park event. Doug, a co-founder of Music in the Park and The Echoes band, has been “retired” from live performance during the pandemic. But he has tuned up his ukulele for this event!

The songs he will perform with Linda are intended as a tribute to David Grover, who passed away in November 2021. Dave played with Linda at Music in the Park events in 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2021. They performed together for many years at the New Lebanon Library as well. As an “honorary citizen” of New Lebanon, he will be missed. Come and sing along with Linda and Doug to show your love for this wonderful musician.

Food and beverages, including wine and craft beers, will be sold during the performances.

The town of New Lebanon’s “Music in the Park” series returns for the first program since 2019, on Sunday, August 1st.  The town’s Community Picnic will take place at the same time in a combined event to celebrate New Lebanon and our emergence from the restrictions of “COVID Year 2020”.

As in the past, the Music in the Park bands will have links to our community.  First up at 1:00 PM, Linda Worster and David Grover, “honorary residents” of New Lebanon, will bring their magical mix of folk, soft rock and original music to our pavilion.

The second band, starting at 2:45 PM, will be New Lebanon’s The Echoes (Tistrya Houghtling, Judy Zimmer, and Doug Banker, with help from the Houghtling kids).  They will be playing many of your favorite folk, pop and rock tunes with ukuleles and guitars, with Julian on drums. Kids will have fun with giant lawn games and a bouncy house.

The Community Picnic is hosted by the New Lebanon Recreation Commission, which provides grilled burgers and hot dogs (donated by community businesses), donated soft drinks, condiments, sweet corn, etc.  People who attend are encouraged to bring their favorite side dish or dessert to share.

Craft beer by local Roaring 20’s Brewery will be available for purchase as well.  Community members may volunteer to assist with setup, cleaning of the pavilion tables, etc.  Also needed is someone to direct parking, primarily early in the event as people arrive.
