Marriage Equality Comes To New York

History was made in New York this past Friday when our great state passed the Marriage Equality Act giving civil marriage rights to all couples. New York became the 6th state to allow both mixed-sex and same-sex couples the right to marry. Same-sex marriage is currently allowed in Connecticut, the District of Columbia, Iowa, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Vermont. Maryland, New York and Rhode Island recognize same-sex marriages performed in other states.

While we were not the first state, New York is the largest state to legalize same-sex marriage and it also the first state in which a Republican-led State Senate passed such a measure. Our own State Senator, Sen. Steve Saland (R-Poughkeepsie), provided a key vote on the measure and joined three of his fellow Republican senators in voting for marriage equality. Senator Saland spoke on the senate floor Friday night and shared his thoughts on how and why he came to the decision to vote for marriage equality. Back in April, The ‘Our Town’ producers  interviewed 27 participants for tonight’s program at the Hudson Opera House. You can see the results tonight on WMHT at 7:30 PM.

Why I Love The CW15 in The Morning

Overheard the following Thor conversation this morning on the CW 15  (Albany) news:

News Lady: “I don’t get this Thor thing”.

News Guy: “He is the god of thunder and used to be one of the big Marvel characters with Spider-Man and Captain America”.

Weather Guy: “Was he made out of rocks”?

At that point you could see the look of extreme disappointment in News Guy’s eyes.

Diamond Street Diner to Reopen

Delicious news via SamPratt.com. The Diamond Street Diner on Warren St. in Hudson has new owners who plan to reopen the eatery with a local “farm-to-chef” menu to compliment the standard diner offerings.

The new owners are the organic farmers from Ghent of Grazin’ Angus Acres, the sign for which is located on Route 66. No word has been given on when we can expect the diner to open.
