Say Goodbye to Ugly Betty with a Look at Some of the Stylish Sets

This week marked the end of the TV series, Ugly Betty, with the final episode airing on Wednesday (April 14, 2010).

This week marked the end of the TV series, Ugly Betty, with the final episode airing on Wednesday (April 14, 2010). I’m really going to miss this show and not just because of the amazing cast portraying some of the most original, creative and hilarious characters to ever appear on tv. I’m also going to miss the beautiful, over-the-top, and inspiring sets! Take a look at some of the different sets frequently used.

Up first is the hallway at Mode Magazine. This set was in every episode and the items on the shelfs lining the walls changed just about every week. In this past Wednesday’s finale, the shelfs were packed with detailed figures that I’m guessing represented real people involved with the show.

Up next is a shot of one of the offices. Most of the offices went through frequent looks and changed season to season.

Finally, my favorite set was always Wilhelmina Slater’s apartment. As someone who has lived in NYC (the show’s location) I can’t even imagine what the rent would be on an apartment of this size.

My Country Home: Dining Area

I have an obsession with rearranging rooms. In an effort to chronicle and hopefully curb this obsession, I’m going to post pics of my rooms after every shuffle.

Here is how the dining area of the kitchen currently looks:

The chandelier is from Ikea but the shades are from Crate & Barrel and costs way, way more than the chandelier itself. The three items on the buffet are all from Pier 1 but purchased at different times over the span of several years. The vase was a gift from a friend who had no idea that it would perfectly match the other items. The buffet and table base are from a great antique shop in Hudson, NY.

Spring Is In The Air

For those of us in the hills of Columbia County, Winter can last well into April and we never know when the last snow of the season might happen. For this reason, we hold off until Memorial Day until doing any annual plantings in the yard. For now, we are focusing on the yard cleanup, which is extensive after a harsh winter that left tree limbs and branches everywhere.

During the cleanup, I uncovered this little patch of purple flowers.

New Uses For Old Things: Skateboard Lamps

Trying to figure out what to do with all your old skateboard decks? Why not turn them into lamps! That’s what a new company called Skateboard Lamps is doing and the end result is amazing. The lamps are made from three decks joined together with an uplight concealed in the center, which can be dimmed by touching the lower bolts on any of the three decks.

The company sells completed lamps made from new high quality Maple or Bamboo decks with a clear urethane protective coat for $179. If you want to turn your own used decks into a lamp, you can send them to Skateboard Lamps and they will return a finished lamp to you for $99. You can also purchase a lamp kit for $79 to make your own lamp, which might even work with snowboard decks.

For more information, pictures and to buy, check out Skateboard Lamp’s website at www.SkateboardLamps.com.
