WGXC Officially Opens its New Hudson Location

This past April, Wave Farm’s WGXC 90.7-FM relocated its Hudson studio to the First Presbyterian Church, at Warren and 4th streets.

This past April, Wave Farm’s WGXC 90.7-FM relocated its Hudson studio to the First Presbyterian Church, at Warren and 4th streets. Moving WGXC’s primary broadcast studio to a central location has already boosted the station’s visibility and increased community access. The change has revitalized staff and programmers alike and brought a new energy to daily efforts. First Presbyterian’s staff and volunteers have contributed in a significant way to this surge in enthusiasm, going above and beyond to help with the move itself and making everyone feel at home in this historic building.

The WGXC Hudson Studio is open to the public, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday. The studio entrance can be found on the 4th Street side of the building, off Cherry Alley, across from the Hudson Post Office. You can listen to WGXC on 90.7 FM, or stream it at wavefarm.org/wgxc

The Columbia Land Conservancy presents it’s first Sip and Stroll event of 2018 by celebrating World Migratory Bird Day. World Migratory Bird Day, was created in 1993, by the Smithsonian and Cornell Lab of Ornithology and has historically been celebrated around the world on the 2 Saturday of May. The CLC will be celebratingWorld Migratory Bird Day in May, with a walk around the Greenport Conservation Area. The walk will include a discussion about grassland bird management, and will journey to the overlook to see if there are any migratory species along the river.

The History of the Robert Jenkins House, Tour & Talk

Hudson Area Library History Room and the Hendrick Hudson Chapter National Society Daughters of the American Revolution present “The History of the Robert Jenkins House, a home in Hudson: A Tour & Talk” by Jeane La Porta.

Hudson Area Library History Room and the Hendrick Hudson Chapter National Society Daughters of the American Revolution present “The History of the Robert Jenkins House, a home in Hudson: A Tour & Talk” by Jeane La Porta.

This program is a rare opportunity to tour and learn about the history of the Federal Style house at 113 Warren Street, which is on the National Register of Historic Places. The Robert Jenkins House has been owned by the Hendrick Hudson Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) since 1900. The house was built in 1811 by Robert Jenkins, son of one of the original Proprietors of the City of Hudson, who went on to serve as third and fifth mayor of Hudson.

Jeane La Porta, Regent of the Hudson Chapter DAR and Town of Claverack Historian, will give background information on the history of the DAR, including the Hendrick Hudson Chapter, as well as, Claverack Landing and the founding of the city of Hudson as a prelude to a discussion of the construction and history of the 206 year old house that the chapter calls home. The program will include visuals and many photographs will give the audience a rare peek into areas that are not open to the public. The Greenport Garden Club will be providing flower arrangements throughout the house for this special spring tour.

The Hendrick Hudson Chapter, NSDAR, maintains the Robert Jenkins House Genealogical, Research, and History Reading Room, which contains a growing collection of Columbia County and regional genealogy, and the Robert Jenkins House Historical Collection as a repository for memorabilia relating to the history of the area, the city of Hudson and the whaling industry.
