An Update on the New Lebanon Library’s New Mascot

At the beginning of the year, the New Lebanon Library invited local students to create a new mascot for the library. The winning design, “Calvin the book” was revealed in March, and now we have an updated look at Calvin from the library.

At the beginning of the year, the New Lebanon Library invited local students (ages 5-18) to create a new mascot for the library. The winning design, “Calvin the book” created by local 4th grader Logan, was revealed in March, and now we have an update from the library. Calvin now has color and a few minor details (see below), and will soon become a regular fixture around the library.

Secondly, the plush version of Calvin is in production, and the winning designer, Logan, will receive his copy of Calvin and the New Lebanon Library will have their own version for patrons to check out and take on trips. It is the library’s hope that patrons will have many fun adventures with Calvin and share them with the library!

Columbia County Historical Society Chosen for Hannaford Helps Reusable Bag Program

The Columbia County Historical Society (CCHS), has been selected as a beneficiary of the Hannaford Helps Reusable Bag Program for the month of July, at its Valatie location — 2967 Route 9.

The Columbia County Historical Society (CCHS), has been selected as a beneficiary of the Hannaford Helps Reusable Bag Program for the month of July, at its Valatie location — 2967 Route 9.

The Hannaford Helps Reusable Bag Program launched in October 2015, and is designed to support local nonprofits through the sale of reusable Community Bags. CCHS was selected by Hannaford as the July beneficiary of the program, and for every reusable Community Bag purchased at the Valatie Hannaford during July, CCHS will receive a $1 donation.

“We are thrilled to be chosen as July’s benefactor for the Hannaford Helps Reusable Bag Program,” said CCHS Executive Director, Lori Yarotsky. “Our mission is to preserve and present the history, heritage and culture of Columbia County, and serve the whole county, so it means a lot to be recognized by our local Hannaford Supermarket, especially this summer while there are a lot of exciting–and some new–exhibitions at all four CCHS-owned properties.”

For more information on the Hannaford Helps Reusable BagProgram, visit hannaford.bags4mycause.com.

The home’s two circular structures are connected by a large deck that wraps around the main hous, and leads to the guest house, which also has a 360-degree deck of it’s own. Large stone-slab steps lead from the deck to the backyard and a gravel patio with a Garden Room. The Garden Room has a sink, counters and a wall of windows for starting seeds or growing plants.

The deck leads you from the main house to guest house.

The home’s CATHEDRAL CEILINGS allow for a sleeping loft in the main house, and a custom floating table in the guest house that can automatically be raised or lowered to your desired height. There are two FIREPLACES in the main house, and a wood burning stove in guest house that provide a cozy atmosphere on chilly nights. Multiple Sun-Tunnel Skylights provide natural light in the home, and there are custom features throughout, including a nonagon (9-sided) kitchen island w/ oven & downdraft cooktop, wood cabinetry designed to perfectly fit the home’s circular shape, and closets that maximize every inch of the home’s storage potential.
