NYC’s Cliffside ‘Pumpkin House’ For Sale

There’s a interesting story on Gothamist today about a new home on the market. It’s in Manhattan’s Hudson Heights neighborhood, at 16 Chittenden Avenue, and built over a cliff just north of the George Washington Bridge. Apparently, the home is commonly known as “The Pumpkin House”, because from the New Jersey side of the Hudson, and with the lights just right, the house looks like a lit-up Jack-O-Lantern.

The 3-story, 3,144-square-foot, free-standing home was built in the 1920s on a steel foundation sunk into a steep cliff at West 186th Street. The house is listed at $5.25 million. You can check out the listing by clicking here

worth_constitution_881221553394-237x300

Tonight at the New Lebanon Library, the library is hosting it’s regular discussion group that studies the American Constitution.

Join Constitution enthusiast Paul Engel for a bi-weekly discussion group focusing on the study of the American Constitution. Interested participants should bring their questions and be ready to share their opinions.  Along with the Constitution, Paul Engel has studied the Federalist Papers, the Anti-Federalist Papers, and numerous books and articles on the topic. His plan is to focus on the actual words of the Constitution and, in doing so, to help build a better understanding of what founded this country.

The group will meet tonight at the library, at 7pm. It is free and open to the public.

The Linda Food For Thought: Indian Point

the_linda_albany

Food For Thought is a monthly evening of food, film and discussion with a focus on films of social, political, environmental and community interest. Held on the third Thursday of each month at The Linda Performing Arts Studio, the night will feature food samples by Honest Weight Food Co-op, music by Jack Empie, a feature film screening, and an open panel discussion.

This Months Film: Indian Point

Indian Point Nuclear Power Plant looms just 35 miles from Times Square. With over 50 million people living in close proximity to the aging facility, its continued operation has the support of the plant’s operators and the NRC — Nuclear Regulatory Commission — yet has stoked a great deal of controversy in the surrounding community, including a vocal anti-nuclear contingent concerned that what happened at Japan’s Fukushima nuclear plant could happen here. In the brewing fight for clean energy and the catastrophic possibilities of government complacency, director Ivy Meeropol presents a balanced argument about the issues surrounding nuclear energy and offers a startling reality check for our uncertain nuclear future.

This month’s Food For Thought series is AUGUST 18,  7:00 PM – 10:00 PM at The Linda, 339 Central Avenue, Albany, NY 12206.
