The Berkshire Botanical Garden’s 21st annual Winter Lecture is titled “The New Shade Garden: Creating a Lush Oasis in the Age of Climate Change”.

The Berkshire Botanical Garden‘s 21st annual Winter Lecture is titled “The New Shade Garden: Creating a Lush Oasis in the Age of Climate Change”. The lecture, sponsored by The Red Lion Inn, is presented by photographer and author, Ken Druse.

Druse has been called “the guru of natural gardening” by The New York Times, and is best known for his twenty garden books published over the last twenty-five years. The American Horticultural Society listed his first large-format work, “The Natural Garden”, among the best books of all time.

Final Days At The Crandell – Star Wars: The Last Jedi

If you haven’t seen Star Wars: The Last Jedi at the Crandell Theater yet, you only have a few more days until it leaves.

This film is the middle of the current trilogy (VIII, if you’re counting), and boasts of a stellar cast including Tom Hardy, Adam Driver, Andy Serkis, Laura Dern, Benicio Del Toro, Domhnall Gleason, Oscar Isaac, and Lupita Nyong’o, as well as the late Carrie Fisher, Daisy Ridley, Mark Hamill, and John Boyega. It picks up after the conclusion of The Force Awakens, following the story of Rey after she stumbles across the exiled Jedi master Luke Skywalker. It also continues the saga of the war between General Leia’s Resistance and the First Order.

Historical Lecture ‘Discovering Layers in Time’

The Columbia County Historical Society and Historic Hudson present the lecture “Discovering Layers in Time: Life in the Netherlands 1650-1700; the last half of the Dutch Golden Age” by Andre Hoek.

Dutch restoration architect, Andre Hoek will deliver an illustrated lecture on Dutch Culture in the second half of The Golden Age of Dutch Culture. He will explore how the Dutch population lived during the last half of ‘The Golden Age of Dutch Culture’ (the period in which most of New York State was settled by the Dutch) by examining visual evidence in what remains of Dutch 17th century villages, farms, buildings and gardens; and also studying the important paintings of the time which captured both interiors and landscapes.

Block Party: LEGOs in the Library, Jan 9

The New Lebanon Library is hosting it’s monthly LEGO Club. The library will provide the LEGOs, so all kids need to bring is their imaginations. After each build, kids will have a chance to check out each other’s creations and the library will display the completed construction sets.

For ages 5 – 12. LEGO donations are very welcome

Art OMI Exhibit Opening – OnSite: Yolande Daniels

OMI International Arts Center continues it’s OnSite series from Art Omi: Architecture with Yolande Daniels.

The exhibition will feature a steel panel from a 2010 installation of an outdoor pavilion of folded waterjet cut sheet steel and cast concrete hemisphere seating for the Evergreen Museum at Johns Hopkins University. The project responds to the decorative exuberance of a demolished tearoom on the grounds of the former mansion and references tea fantasies from the tranquility of the Japanese tea ceremony to the psychedelia of Alice in Wonderland’s tea party.
