Hillrock Estate Distillery Open House, Jun 9

On June 9th, Hillrock will celebrate the limited release of a first estate single malt rye whiskey barrel proof.

In the early 1800’s, New York produced more than half the nation’s Barley and Rye and the Hudson Valley was the country’s breadbasket. With abundant high quality grain, local craft spirits flourished and over 1000 farm distilleries produced Whiskey and Gin reflecting the unique terroir of the region. In the 1930’s, Prohibition forced these distilleries to shut their doors and this wellspring of American spirits was left dry.

Hillrock Estate Distillery is changing this. The mission is to produce the finest hand-crafted spirits made with their own grain, and hand bottled at the Hudson Valley Highlands estate.

On June 9th, Hillrock will celebrate the limited release of a first estate single malt rye whiskey barrel proof. The celebration will include tours of the farm & distillery, tastings, and bottle signing with Master Distiller Dave Pickerell.

You only have a couple days left to vote for your favorite businesses in the Best of Columbia County competition.  Voting is open until May 31 at 6:01pm Eastern.

The Columbia County Chamber of Commerce, the Register-Star, and the Chatham Courier present The Best of Columbia County. This context allows county residents, and visitors to make their voices heard in deciding the best of the best in a broad field of over 85 categories–including best bar, best burger, best plumber, best florist, and best Real Estate Company. Winners will be announced during an Academy Award style show, held at the Columbia County fairgrounds in Chatham on June 22.

You have to vote in at least 10 categories to enter. All you need to vote is an email address. Here’s my shameless plug – Beach & Bartolo Realtors has won Best Realtor for the past two years, and we would love to win again.

Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Edna St. Vincent Millay inspired many people with her nature poetry. To honor her legacy, Larry Federman from the Audubon Society will conduct a bird walk at Steepletop, Edna St. Vincent Millay’s farmhouse home in Austerlitz, New York.

The walk is intended to inspire visitors to learn more about birds and help to protect the wildlife and the magnificent habitat that surrounds us.
