Art Omi presents Music in the Park 2021, on Saturday, August 28. An informal concert of new, experimental music created during the course of the Art Omi: Music residency. Musicians from a multitude of traditions and genres combine their approaches for novel and unforeseeable results! Grab a seat, bring a blanket, and enjoy seldom heard music amidst art and landscape.

Upstate Art Weekend, Aug 27 – 29

The second edition of UPSTATE ART WEEKEND takes place from August 27-29, 2021: sculpture parks, museums, galleries, artists’ studios, residencies, public artworks and creative projects situated either side of the Hudson River between Garrison and Chatham.

The second edition of UPSTATE ART WEEKEND takes place from August 27-29, 2021, incorporating sixty one sculpture parks, museums, galleries, artists’ studios, residencies, public artworks and creative projects situated either side of the Hudson River between Garrison and Chatham.

This three-day self-directed, accessible event connects tourists and locals alike, with art and the outdoors, celebrating the cultural vibrancy of Upstate New York. The full program can be viewed here and the official map is available here, which was produced in partnership with Chronogram.

“UPSTATE ART WEEKEND is about community, collaboration, art and the outdoors, which are essential to our well-being. We are thrilled the event has grown so much and cannot wait to connect more visitors with the arts in the Hudson Valley”, said Helen Toomer.

Founded in 2020 by Helen Toomer of STONELEAF RETREAT to celebrate the cultural vibrancy of Upstate New York, UPSTATE ART WEEKEND connects people and places, building a community that not only visits for the weekend, but explores the Hudson Valley throughout the year.

Join the Columbia Land Conservancy and the Chatham Public Library for a three-part workshop on seed collection! Register for one workshop or all three.

These workshops will be held outside at the Chatham Public Library, so be sure to dress accordingly. Also, bring a notepad, garden gloves, smartphone (if you have one). Snacks and refreshments will be served. 

DATES/TIMES/LOCATIONS/DESCRIPTIONS:

Part 1 : Native Plant ID & Sustainable Seed Collection
August 16th, 7:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. @ Chatham Public Library (Rain date 8/18)
During this session we will go over plant identification basics and how to start out with ecologically safe and effective seed collection techniques.

Part 2 : Target Species ID & Volunteer Seed Collection Protocols
August 30th, 7:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. @ Chatham Public Library (Rain date 9/1)
This session will cover how to collect seeds from the Public Conservation Areas for the CLC Volunteer Seed Collection. Learn to ID our target list of restoration species and collect.

Part 3: Volunteer Seed Collection Field Workshop
September 13th, 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. @ Greenport Conservation Area (Rain date 9/15)
For our final workshop we will get a hands-on walk through of how to participate in the Volunteer Seed Collection Program. We will be taking a quick loop hike and collecting a few different species, so bring appropriate outdoor gear for walking off-trail.

DIFFICULTY LEVEL: Easy (all three)

COST/REGISTRATION: Free
