Window On Hudson presents Lisa LaMonica, Botanicals in Water, on display now through March 29, 2021. Lisa LaMonica’s watercolors are a study of plants she discovered growing in an abandoned garden in 2015. She spent the spring and summer months cataloguing much of the flora, wanting to have a record of what someone else had created and then left behind. In the storefront windows of Window On Hudson she will be exhibiting over 2 dozen of these delicate works, giving us a reminder of the colorful life that is right around the corner.
LaMonica is a painter, author and illustrator living in upstate, NY. She is an artist of many mediums, choosing to use acrylics, oils, pastels, monoprints and mosaics in addition to watercolors, depending on the project. An accomplished author as well, she has written and illustrated a number of books, including “Haunted Catskills” for the PBS based The Haunted America series, “Hudson” and “Kinderhook” for the Images of America series, and “You and Me as Big as the Sea” for young readers. Additionally, she has written for Chronogram Magazine and Hudson Valley Parent Magazine.
She was nominated for Artist of the Year by the Columbia County Council on the Arts in 2002 as well as receiving several other accolades and grants. When not painting in her own studio she can be found teaching at the Hudson Youth Department and Hudson Senior Center.
