Join the Columbia County Soil and Water Conservation District (www.ccswcd.org) for an animal tracking hike on Saturday.

Join the Columbia County Soil and Water Conservation District (www.ccswcd.org) for an animal tracking hike on Saturday (March 2, 2019). Hikers will look for signs of wildlife and learn about the natural history of local animals. The program will start at Mud Creek Environmental Learning Center where Pamela Price, Certified Wildlife Biologist and Education Program Coordinator will give a brief talk about identifying animal tracks. Afterward, head out to the trail to enjoy the brisk winter air and use your new knowledge to spot tracks and traces left by rabbits, foxes, deer, and perhaps even a bobcat. The hike is a snow or no snow event!

Groundhog Day Program & Trail Walk at Mud Creek, Feb 2

At Mud Creek Environmental Learning Center where Pamela Price, Certified Wildlife Biologist and Education Program Coordinator will give a brief talk about Punxsutawney Phil and facts about the groundhog.

downloadOn February 2, Punxsutawney Phil comes out of his burrow on Gobbler’s Knob in Pennsylvania, in front of thousands of faithful followers from all over the world, to predict the weather for the rest of the winter. At Mud Creek Environmental Learning Center where Pamela Price, Certified Wildlife Biologist and Education Program Coordinator will give a brief talk about Phil and facts about the groundhog. We will also take a short walk on the trail to enjoy the brisk winter air and get a little exercise.

The winter months are a great time for backyard birding. Come to Mud Creek ELC and create your own bird feeder from recycled materials. By putting up a feeder in your yard you can experience the wonderful birds of winter right outside your window and stay warm inside while watching. Feeding birds in winter is fun and helps birds during the harsh conditions the season brings.

Learn about common backyard birds, feeding tips, and ways to attract birds to your property. There will also be a stroll along the trail in search of birds.

Mud Creek Environmental Learning Center – Birding Event, Sep 29

Join Mud Creek Environmental Learning Center, for a morning of birding around Mud Creek at the absolute peak of fall migration.

Songbirds, shorebirds, raptors, and waterfowl will be making their way south from their breeding grounds around Mud Creek and points north to their wintering destinations in the southern U.S., Central, and South America. Join Mud Creek Environmental Learning Center, for a morning of birding around Mud Creek at the absolute peak of fall migration. All skill levels are welcome. A pair of binoculars is strongly encouraged as a limited number of binoculars will be available for participants.

The walk is a rain or shine event. Please dress for the weather.

Columbia County Soil and Water Conservation District invites you to slither on over to Mud Creek Environmental Learning Center for a truly sensational night! Reptile Adventure will be visiting and teaching program participants all about the conservation and protection needs of our planets reptiles. We will be joined by all sorts of snakes and lizards, and you can learn how you can assist in preserving habitat for these important species. Participants will have a hands-on meet and greet with some of the animals at the end of the program!
