Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast” is a live-action re-telling of the studio’s animated classic which refashions the classic characters from the tale as old as time for a contemporary audience, staying true to the original music while updating the score with several new songs. “Beauty and the Beast” is the fantastic journey of Belle, a bright, beautiful and independent young woman who is taken prisoner by a beast in his castle. Despite her fears, she befriends the castle’s enchanted staff and learns to look beyond the Beast’s hideous exterior and realize the kind heart and soul of the true Prince within.

Varla Jean Merman at Club Helsinki, Hudson

Varla Jean Merman is a drag queen character created and portrayed by Jeffery Roberson, an  actor, singer, and performer. Varla’s fictitious back story is that she is the daughter of Ernest Borgnine and Ethel Merman. Varla Jean has appeared on stage, screen, TV, cabaret, and concert halls. Her cabaret shows are always a highlight of the Provincetown summer scene, and this Sunday, Varla Jean will take the stage in Hudson.

Spring Migration Bird Walk


On Saturday, the Germantown Library presents the Keep Spring Walk, a Spring Migration Bird Walk. Founded in 1998, KEEP Conservation is a local non-profit organization dedicated to the protection and survival of migratory and breeding birds.

The tour will be guided by Linda Atkins, Pearl Broder and Louise Fraza of the KEEP Conservation Preserve. This is a family-friendly tour. Participants should bring water and binoculars

‘The Fiery Sword of Justice’ Performance at Ancram Opera House to Benefit Roeliff Jansen Library

“The Fiery Sword of Justice”, a comedy about how one business woman’s compulsive truth-telling torpedoed her career, will be staged at the Ancram Opera House as a benefit for the Roeliff Jansen Commuity Library.

Here’s some info from the library about the performance:

The play is written and performed by Lauren Lettelier. After a decades-long career in New York as an award-winning communications executive, Lauren is now a Hillsdale-based writer, actor, and voice artist as well as a volunteer at the library both at the circulation desk and on committees.
“The Fiery Sword of Justice” received rave reviews at the 2014 New York International Fringe Festival, where critics called it “Bold, funny, wise and brave … cannot be missed!” (StageBuddy.com); “An enlightening piece of work … wicked, sharp and funny!” (T2Conline.com) and “The most original piece … at the Fringe” (NYTheaterGuide.com).

Lecture: An Up-Close Look At Wildlife at the New Lebanon Library

Thursday at the New Lebanon Library, the library is hosting a lecture on “Camera Trapping,” with Richard Greene.

Outdoor enthusiast Richard Greene will talk about a technique called “camera trapping,” discuss its use in conservation and science, and show us photos and videos that he’s taken using this technique.
