What if the family narrative that shapes us is a lie? Three Decembers tells the story of aging Broadway star Madeline Mitchell and her two adult children as they struggle to connect and heal old wounds while family secrets are revealed. This intimate, compelling drama takes place over two decades during the AIDS crisis, and has been hailed by critics as a modern masterpiece.

The one act Three Decembers takes a deep look at the meaning of connection in the contemporary American family through the story of Broadway star Madeline Mitchell and her children. Stage Director Beth Greenberg, renowned for her work at the New York City Opera, says of the opera: “Buried secrets…dark whispers…love, and devastating loss…all collide and burst forth in Three Decembers. With its skillful balance of drama and èlan, the work probes the fraught relationships between a successful actress-mother and her two children—a daughter coping with a failing marriage, and her young, gay son at the beginnings of the AIDS epidemic.”

Up next at the Mac-Haydn theatre is Kiss Me, Kate. The show opens on Thursday, July 21 and runs through Sunday, July 31.

The sophisticated, romantic and delightfully hilarious Broadway classic that earned the very first Tony award for Best Musical. Kiss Me, Kate combines the irreverent humor of four brilliant writers: Sam and Bella Spewack, Cole Porter and William Shakespeare.

The battle of the sexes takes center stage as former spouses feud onstage and off during a musical presentation of The Taming of the Shrew. Egotistical leading man, director, and producer Fred Graham and his ex-wife, Lilli Vanessi profess to hate each other. However, it soon becomes clear that their relationship is a little more complicated. Throw in some cases of mistaken identity and a few legendary comedic routines and you get Kiss Me, Kate.

Returning to the Mac-Haydn for the first time in 10 years, this production of Kiss Me, Kate is sure to be a blockbuster addition to the 2022 season. You will hear the Mac-Haydn musicians at their absolute best in this timeless score which features hits like “Another Op’nin’, Another Show”; “Always True To You In My Fashion” and “It’s Too Darn Hot”. Cole Porter’s exceptional musical will burst off the stage in our intimate setting and promises to leave you feeling so in love.

The Spotty Dog Books & Ale is hosting “Find Waldo Local in Hudson!” until July 31st.

Where’s Waldo? In Hudson, of course! The iconic children’s book character in the red-and-white-striped shirt and black-rimmed specs is visiting twenty-five local businesses throughout our community this July. Celebrating its tenth anniversary in 2022, Find Waldo Local is a great summer vacation activity and a wonderful way to support local businesses, including Vasilows, Rev, Steiners, Tanzys, and the Hudson Farmers Market.

Anyone who wishes to participate can pick up a “Find Waldo Local in Hudson!” stamp card, which contains the names of all the participating sites; with each Waldo they spot, they can get their card stamped or signed by the participating shop. To make things a little more challenging, there will be one slightly different Waldo hiding in The Spotty Dog. Collecting store stamps or signatures at twenty or more businesses will entitle diligent seekers entry into a grand-prize drawing for Waldo books and paraphernalia. Happy hunting!
