Omi International Arts Center – Tim Youd: The 100 Novels Project

The 100 Novels Project is an ongoing performance art piece in which Youd retypes novels from beginning to end in locations that play a central role in the novels.

Los Angeles-based artist Tim Youd performs at Art Omi as part of a Hudson Valley cycle of The 100 Novels Project, an ongoing performance in which Youd retypes novels from beginning to end at locations that play a central role in the novels. Employing the same make and model typewriter used by the author, Youd types each novel on a single sheet of paper backed by an additional support sheet. When finished with the novel, Youd presents the two sheets a diptych.

While at Art Omi, Tim Youd will retype William Kennedy’s Ironweed at various outdoor locations around The Fields Sculpture Park; the public is invited to find and observe him as he works. Since April, Youd has performed at a series of locations throughout the Hudson Valley region; sites have included Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, Sing Sing Correctional Facility in Ossining, and recently the Thomas Cole National Historic Site in Catskill, where he retyped Light Years by James Salter. The Hudson Valley Cycle culminates with an exhibition of the resulting diptychs at the Frances Lehman Loeb Art Center Focus Gallery, which will be on view August 30 through October 14.

Walking the dog theater Co., in partnership with Nikita Productions, is presenting William Shakespeare’s Richard II as part of their 21st anniversary celebration.

A story about identity.  Taking place during a dramatic shift in history when tradition, religion and royal lineage get disrupted, the modern age of ruling-by-might is birthed.  King Richard is a sovereign who plays at being King. Crowned at the age of 10, and surrounded by flatterers, he rules by ceremony and pillage, repeatedly claiming his righteousness as God’s anointed minister. His downfall comes when he crosses one line too many, and the consequences of his misrule and lack of self-knowledge finally come home to roost, resulting in the new order of King Henry IV.

Directed by Melania Levitsky, the play will feature live, original music and the following cast:
