Lucille Ball’s First Hollywood Home for Sale

1024x1024

The Home’s Historic Past

When Lucille Ball left NY for Hollywood in the early 1930’s, she rented the 1,874-square-foot bungalow at 1344 N. Ogden Drive. At the age of 22, Ball had just signed a contract with RKO Radio Pictures, so the actress moved to CA with her family, including her mom and brother. The group lived in the rented bungalow until Ball eloped with Desi Arnaz, and moved into a Beverly Hills mansion.

The two-bedroom, two-bathroom bungalow with palm trees in the front yard was built in 1919, and is located in the heart of West Hollywood’s historic Spaulding Square neighborhood. This area is comprised of many Colonial-style bungalows developed between 1916 and 1926. The current owner has lived in the property for over 20 years and has done extensive renovations to the home while still preserving its old-world charm, and ties to Ball.

NYC’s Cliffside ‘Pumpkin House’ For Sale

pumpkinhouse-jpeg-mobile

There’s a interesting story on Gothamist today about a new home on the market. It’s in Manhattan’s Hudson Heights neighborhood, at 16 Chittenden Avenue, and built over a cliff just north of the George Washington Bridge. Apparently, the home is commonly known as “The Pumpkin House”, because from the New Jersey side of the Hudson, and with the lights just right, the house looks like a lit-up Jack-O-Lantern.

The 3-story, 3,144-square-foot, free-standing home was built in the 1920s on a steel foundation sunk into a steep cliff at West 186th Street. The house is listed at $5.25 million. You can check out the listing by clicking here

Columbia County in Pictures: Summer Flowers

My slice of Columbia County is on the North face of a fairly large, wooded hill. It’s beautiful, and never gets too hot, but there’s no one spot in the yard that receives true, full sunlight. Fortunately, there’s no shortage of flowering plants that grow in low light.
