Get a first look at emerging talents around the world — all from the comfort of your own home!

Bindlestiff Open Stage Variety Show is breaking out of the confines of a theater, and coming to you in the comfort of your own home. Jump online for a night of variety that will include much more than a simple song and dance. Enjoy a non-stop variety show experience that may include world famous magicians, gender bending jugglers, circus legends, trained rats, novelty musicians, aerial artists, wire walkers, sideshow performers, puppeteers, living cartoons, physical comedy, contortionists, performance artists, and more.
Hosted by Keith “Bindlestiff” Nelson, the special Quarantine Edition deals with social distance and isolation head on. Using the tools of video conferencing, Bindlestiff’s Open Stage will feature each act live in their own location.
The Quarantine Edition is free to all, however we will be “passing the hat” for contributions.

Window On Hudson Presents Lisa LaMonica, ‘Botanicals in Winter’

Window On Hudson presents Lisa LaMonica, Botanicals in Water, on display now through March 29, 2021

Window On Hudson
presents Lisa LaMonica, Botanicals in Water, on display now through March 29, 2021. Lisa LaMonica’s watercolors are a study of plants she discovered growing in an abandoned garden in 2015. She spent the spring and summer months cataloguing much of the flora, wanting to have a record of what someone else had created and then left behind. In the storefront windows of Window On Hudson she will be exhibiting over 2 dozen of these delicate works, giving us a reminder of the colorful life that is right around the corner.

LaMonica is a painter, author and illustrator living in upstate, NY. She is an artist of many mediums, choosing to use acrylics, oils, pastels, monoprints and mosaics in addition to watercolors, depending on the project. An accomplished author as well, she has written and illustrated a number of books, including “Haunted Catskills” for the PBS based The Haunted America series, “Hudson” and “Kinderhook” for the Images of America series, and “You and Me as Big as the Sea” for young readers. Additionally, she has written for Chronogram Magazine and Hudson Valley Parent Magazine.

She was nominated for Artist of the Year by the Columbia County Council on the Arts in 2002 as well as receiving several other accolades and grants. When not painting in her own studio she can be found teaching at the Hudson Youth Department and Hudson Senior Center.

Window On Hudson is two large storefront windows located at 43 South Third Street, in Hudson, NY. The windows are prominently visible 24/7 to all citizens and visitors of the City of Hudson traveling south on NY-9G. Window On Hudson offers storefront window exhibition space for artists of all mediums who are in Hudson and the Hudson Valley. Window On Hudson is committed to providing a platform for established and developing artists to display their work, of all mediums, while also offering professional development opportunities for emerging artists. Window On Hudson exhibits a new artist on a monthly basis. Artists interested in submitting their work may do so by emailing submissions@windowonhudson.org or visiting the website http://www.WindowOnHudson.org.

Spencertown Academy Arts Center Root & Shoots Streams will broadcast The Magdalens Unplugged, performing live on the Spencertown stage, via YouTube on Saturday, March 13th. The Magdalens Unplugged is an alt-folk-rock band comprised of Renée DaVink (lead singer and songwriter), Britany Orlebeke (violin), and John Caplis (guitar). Based in Albany, New York, the band plays both original songs and covers a unique blend of Americana, post-punk, and indie classics.

“While it’s not yet safe for us to gather in person for live concerts, we’re hoping to bring some of that joy into your homes by presenting Roots & Shoots concerts online,” says Mike Zdeb, member of the Academy’s Music Committee. “I got a sneak peek at The Magdalens Unplugged set list for the concert and what you’re likely to hear ranges from traditional Irish fiddle tunes to the Pogues, Bob Dylan, and John Prine. They’ll also play some of their own original material.”

The Magdalens Unplugged is a subgroup of The Magdalens five-piece band, which also includes Al Kash (drums) and Moses Nagel (bass). The band’s debut album titled “Lay Down Love” is available on all music streaming platforms.

Roots & Shoots Streams Concerts is a series that showcases artists who reach back to earlier traditions in music (Americana, jazz, blues, rock, and world music) for inspiration, while incorporating more recent forms and influences of the present.

DATE/TIME: Saturday, March 13, 2021 / 7:30pm

ADMISSION: Free (tips are welcome via a virtual tip jar)
