
Join the Columbia Land Conservancy and Olana for a Stream & Pond Backpack Program, Under the Surface: Lake Explorers at Olana, August 13th.
Join Columbia Land Conservancy‘s Jenifer Rosete for an afternoon of lake exploration. Take a closer look at Olana’s man-made Lake to learn what macroinvertebrates are living below the surface and what they can tell us about water quality. Waders, nets, and field guides will be provided. The Columbia Land Conservancy works with their community to conserve the farmland, forests, wildlife habitat and rural character of Columbia County, strengthening connections between people and the land.
Jenifer Rosete joined CLC in October 2020 and is a Columbia County native with a degree in Environmental Science from the Rochester Institute of Technology Jenifer enjoys connecting to nature through hiking, bird watching, photography, and searching for geocaches.
Difficulty level: Short walk to the lake, then we will be exploring the pond with nets, magnifying glasses, field guides, waders.
What to bring: Sunscreen, water, weather appropriate clothing and footwear. Waders, nets, and field guides will be provided.

TRAVEL SKETCHING IN WATERCOLOR with Jean Mackay on Saturday, November 9, 9am to 1pm. Bring home the memories of your travel with more than photographs. Learn tips, techniques, and layout ideas for sketching on the go and capturing your experiences in watercolor.
SHADES OF GREY with Maj Kalfus on Wednesday, November 13, 10 am to 1 pm. Explore what you can do with chiaroscuro – the use of strong contrasts between light and dark – in this class with Maj. Contrast can give a sense of volume and also affect the composition of a picture. Learn to be more intentional with this technique.
ABSTRACT LANDSCAPE PAINTING with Tim Ebneth on Thursdays, November 7, 14, and 21, from 11 am to 2 pm. this class explores the abstraction of representational landscape images. The class will work with acrylic painting and learn various paint techniques, set up a palette, image transfer and examination of shapes, textures and color.
MORE COLLAGE! with Tim Ebneth on Wednesdays, November 13, and 20, from 2 to 4 pm. An ongoing dialouge with the collage using photographs, fabric, papers, found objects and ephemera. Mixed media like acrylic paint, graphite, watercolor and gouache.
