This Friday at the Red Hook Public Library, a special book discussion of Friday Night Lights by H.G. Bissinger. Set in the socially and racially divided town of Odessa, Texas, Friday Night Lights recounts the true story of the unique pressures and dreams of the 1988 Permian High School football team — the winningest high school football team in Texas history — as it pursues the state high school football championship.
Discussion will be facilitated by Greg “Coach” Rafferty. Coach Rafferty has 38 years of coaching experience including twenty-eight years coaching cross country in Red Hook and twenty-five years coaching track. He has also coached wrestling and girls’ basketball. Cookies and refreshments will be provided.
This book discussion is made possible through the Pushing the Limits program series. Pushing the Limits is a reading, viewing and discussion program for adults in communities served by rural libraries, made possible by a grant from the National Science Foundation.
