Travelogue, China @ New Lebanon Library

This Thursday (April 26) at the New Lebanon Library: Travelogue on China

Local resident Doreen Forney will present a multimedia travelogue about her trip through China. Her eleven day, four city adventure was a visit among the Chinese people and not from a tour bus. The audience will travel to Shanghai, Xian, Baoding and Beijing. Those who have attended one of Doreen’s previous presentations certainly know that the views through Doreen’s camera lens that she shares are always thought provoking and entertaining and made even more so with the experiences she relates. Celebrate the year of the dragon by learning more about China. The presentation will be followed by discussion and Q&A.

New Lebanon Library’s Centennial Celebration

Commemorate The 100th Anniversary of the New Lebanon Library this Saturday, April 21, 2012!

Jesse Torrey founded the first free public library in New Lebanon in 1804.  That institution was the progenitor of the New Lebanon Library.  Art Robinson, from Hamlin, NY, is Torrey’s descendant (5th generation nephew) and his genealogical research has filled some of the gaps in our knowledge of Torrey’s life after he left New Lebanon.  Art will share his discoveries with us, including where Jesse is buried!

Local author and library trustee Dan Lynch will review the library’s history since it was chartered a century ago.  He will focus on the work of another founder, the Reverend Joseph Hooper, and trace the contributions of Directors and volunteers over the years, with particular emphasis on Clemence Bull, Olive Hand and Mary Gillen.  Attendees will be invited to share their memories of the Library.

Light refreshments will be served. This program is cosponsored by the Lebanon Valley Historical Society and the New Lebanon Library.

Red Cross Disaster Preparedness @ New Lebanon Library

Tomorrow night (April 4, 2012) at the New Lebanon Library – Red Cross Disaster Preparedness and Citizen’s CPR

Disaster Preparedness teaches simple and effective steps people can take to protect themselves and loved ones during emergencies. When disasters strike, there isn’t always much time to respond, so it is important to be ready. Participants will learn to build an emergency preparedness kit, make a plan and stay informed.

Citizen CPR is a brief, non-certificate program teaching hands only CPR. It teaches easy and effective compressions which could improve the chances of saving a life. The mission of the Citizen CPR Foundation is to save lives from sudden death by stimulating citizen and community action.

This program is free and open to the public.
