PS21: Performance Spaces for the 21st Century presents Bridgman|Packer Dance, Guggenheim Fellows in Choreography, who have pioneered and continue to push the boundaries of live performance and video technology. Now, they are inviting the audience to join them for their Video Playground. This engaging interactive installation allows participants to create their own video magic by playing with time, scale, juxtaposition, and shadow.

The Video Playground was developed over several years in conjunction with Bridgman|Packer Dance’s stage work that integrates live performance and video technology. While live video cameras capture the movements of the participants, their images are transformed into designs that are projected onto the walls of the PS21 black box theater through a computer processing program called Isadora.

With a wide-ranging musical playlist and mind-blowing visuals, the audience should come ready to have fun, no matter their age or whether they can boogie down or have two left feet. “The Video Playground is for everyone, all ages and non-dancer and dancer alike,” Bridgman says. “Sometimes it’s a party atmosphere, and sometimes it’s a deep and concentrated exploration of a human image being morphed into a new artistic reality…and everything in between.”

This event will also feature the screening of “Look Out,” a film by Bridgman|Packer Dance in collaboration with cinematographer Gavin Preuss, filmed entirely with a drone camera. The screening will be followed by a talk and Q & A with Bridgman, Packer, and Preuss, as well as a drone camera demonstration.

Walking the dog theater Co., presents Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol. Now a tradition for 13 years with WTD, the performance of this timeless story continues its evolution.

The theater’s Executive Artistic Director David Anderson, who performs the piece solo (moving fluidly from character to character) says of the project, “A Christmas Carol has become an annual tradition in many communities, and it is the best way I know to become inspired by the season.”

Through drama and masterful storytelling, Anderson performs the story exactly as Dickens wrote it, giving the audience not only the dialogue but the descriptive passages as well. Anderson’s rendition, directed by Ted Pugh, is a modern revival of Dickens’ own manner of storytelling. Dickens gave performances drawn from A Christmas Carol and The Pickwick Papers throughout the Northeastern United States, from his arrival in Boston in mid-November, 1867 to his return to England in April 1868.
