The Hudson Valley People’s Climate March is This Saturday

I’m reposting the following in case you missed it the first time.

On April 29, 2017, hundreds of thousands of Americans will take part in a peaceful march to fight for our planet, and raise awareness of the growing climate crisis. The People’s Climate Movement is centered on the Washington DC march, and working with sister marches across the country, including one in Hudson NY.

Hudson Valley People’s Climate Sister March & Rally is being organized by a coalition of individuals involved with local Indivisible, Resistance and Environmental groups in the Upper Hudson Valley and is being co-sponsored with Basilica Hudson.

SCHEDULE for APRIL 29:

11am – The Rally
The Hudson Valley People’s Climate Sister March will begin with a rally in the Public Square (7th Street Park) in the center of Hudson. The rally will feature speakers from a variety of environmental activists groups including those involved in environmental justice, open space, sustainable farming, clean water and more. Confirmed speakers include Ned Sullivan, President of Scenic Hudson; Assembly Member Didi Barrett; Will Yandik, 4th Generation farmer, environmental activist and former NY-19 Congressional candidate; Michelle O’Leary who founded NY Water Project in response to the PFOA contamination in Hoosik Falls; and Karen Frishkoff, co-leader of the Columbia County chapter of Citizens’ Climate Lobby.

12pm – The March
After the rally, the march will head down Warren Street toward the river. We are encouraging people to bring signs and other visuals. The national march is encouraging people to produce signage and visuals that are circles to represent the planet and the circles of resistance that we see everywhere in the nation. DRONE-y sounds — such as wordless voices, kazoos, recorders, flutes, portable keyboards, bag pipes — are encouraged, as is thematic dress. Think Climate, think Planet, think cosmic DRONE! The march route will take Warren Street to the end, turn left on Front Street pass the train station and will end up at Basilica Hudson with their 24-HOUR DRONE festival will have just begun.

1pm – The Meet Up
When marchers arrive at Basilica they are encouraged to meet under their huge solar array, located behind the Kite’s Nest building, adjacent to the railroad tracks and the L&B building. The array will be stocked with information by representatives of local and regional environmental groups. There will be a few speakers who will address the crowd and the event will finish with people having a chance to exchange ideas, meet their fellow activists and get more involved.

Looking for something after the March? Basilica Hudson, will open their 2017 Season at noon on the 29th, with the annual program ’24-HOUR DRONE: EXPERIMENTS IN SOUND AND MUSIC’. For more on this music festival, visit http://basilicahudson.org/24-hour-drone/
