Dutch restoration architect, Andre Hoek will deliver an illustrated lecture on Dutch Culture in the second half of The Golden Age of Dutch Culture. He will explore how the Dutch population lived during the last half of ‘The Golden Age of Dutch Culture’ (the period in which most of New York State was settled by the Dutch) by examining visual evidence in what remains of Dutch 17th century villages, farms, buildings and gardens; and also studying the important paintings of the time which captured both interiors and landscapes.

Columbia County Historical Society Lecture & Book Signing w/ Glenn Pearsall

The Columbia County Historical Society presents a lecture & book signing with Adirondack Historian and Author, Glenn Pearsall.

The Columbia County Historical Society presents a lecture & book signing with Adirondack Historian and Author, Glenn Pearsall.

Pearsall will speak about his new fiction book, “Leaves Torn Asunder.” Based on true events, Pearsall’s research included diaries, soldiers’ letters home, visits to Civil War battle sites and historical documents such as the Fugitive Slave Act of 1850. Pearsall researched the lives of several local men who fought in the Civil War, but didn’t want to write another book about “dates and statistics.” The challenge, with writing a novel, he said, was bringing the story to life through speech and mannerisms.
