Holidelic at Club Helsinki Hudson, Dec 22 & 23

Helsinki Hudson presents Holidelic this Friday and Saturday.

Part dance party, part funk concert, part comedy show, the holiday-funk spectacular Holidelic features original holiday songs as well as loose, funk-infused adaptations of Tchaikovsky, “Frosty the Snowman,” “Little Drummer Boy” and the like. With Holidelic, Everett “Papadelic” Bradley puts a fresh spin on holiday cheer, through lively holiday party tunes, outrageous costumes, and a theatrical stage show worthy of George Clinton’s P-Funk. There’ll be no “Silent Night” when Holidelic reinvigorates the season, prompting concertgoers to shake their holiday booties to Sly Stone-style funk ‘n’ roll. Ho-ho-ho.

Alejandro Escovedo at Club Helsinki Tonight, January 6

170106_fb

Legendary rocker Alejandro Escovedo brings his unique punk-infused, roots-rock sound to Club Helsinki in Hudson tonight. Escovedo is joined by the Burn Something Beautiful Band, which features Peter Buck of R.E.M., Scott McCaughey of Young Fresh Fellows, Kurt Block of Fastbacks, and Linda Pitmon of the Baseball Project.

Here is some info from HelsinkiHudson.com:

Texas-raised Mexican-American Alejandro Escovedo – the uncle of pop-funk star Sheila E – is a one-time punk-rocker mostly playing original alt-country music since before there was such a term. His music today ranges from Velvet Underground-style drone rock to classic punk to Los Lobos-like Chicano rock to Rolling Stones covers to idiosyncratic, character-based visionary music along the lines of Tom Waits.
In recent years, Escovedo has teamed with Helsinki favorite Chuck Prophet for songwriting and Tony Visconti (David Bowie) for producing. Escovedo credits Prophet for the hints of lightness and humor that have been creeping into his work the past few years.

Tonight’s show will also include an opening band – the indie-rock group, The Minus 5.
