The Roeliff Jansen Library presents ‘Art in the Evening: Matisse and His Cut-Outs’ on Thursday, March 25th from 7:00 – 8:30 PM. 

<p style="line-height:1.6" value="<amp-fit-text layout="fixed-height" min-font-size="6" max-font-size="72" height="80">Hosted by the library's Children’s and Youth Services Associate and professional artist, Tia Maggio, this FREE Zoom class will take a look at Henri Matisse’s late works: his paper cut-outs. The class will also be “painting with scissors” to create your own colorful masterpieces. Spencertown Academy Arts Center Presents Youth Mixed-Media Art Workshop with Jacqueline Rogers

Spencertown Academy Arts Center presents children’s book illustrator Jacqueline Rogers leading a virtual mixed-media art workshop for students ages 11 to 17 during winter break. The three-session series will meet on February 15, 17, and 19, and is limited to 15 participants.

“We’re delighted to kick off 2021 Family Arts Kaleidoscope programming with this playful and experimental workshop,” says Kelly Kynion, Academy board member and program chair. “Students will have the freedom to play with creative themes suggested by Jackie or to explore subjects of their own choice.”

In three related art classes, participants will explore different materials and techniques: charcoal during the first session, collage/assorted papers in the second session, and mixed media, such as pastels, markers, crayons, and/or paint, in the third session.

Jaqueline Rogers has been a professional children’s book illustrator for more than three decades and has worked on nearly 100 children’s books. Some of her notable published works include illustrations for Beverly Cleary’s “Ramona” series, Laura Bush and Jenna Bush Hager’s picture book, “Our Great Big Backyard” (which was a New York Times #1Bestseller), two pictures books by Ree Drummond, the Pioneer Woman, and most recently her own original Halloween poem “Goblin Moon,” which was published by HarperCollins last year.

Support for the Family Arts Kaleidoscope series is provided by Hudson River Bank and Trust Foundation and Stewart’s Shops.

Founded in 1972, Spencertown Academy Arts Center is a cultural center and community resource serving Columbia County, the Berkshires, and the Capital region. Spencertown Academy Presents Children’s Book Author Jacqueline Rogers Drawing & Storytelling Workshop

Spencertown Academy Arts Center presents children’s book author and illustrator Jacqueline Rogers leading an interactive Zoom workshop titled “Drawing and Storytelling at the Holidays” on Wednesday, December 30th. This free program is the eighth and final event in the 2020 Family Arts Kaleidoscope series, and recommended for children ages 8+ and their families.

“Jacqueline’s virtual illustration workshops for kids during the Academy’s Festival of Books this fall were a big hit. We’re delighted to welcome her back during the holidays,” says Kelly Kynion, Academy board member and program chair. “We’re also looking forward to continuing Family Arts Kaleidoscope in the new year—stay tuned for updates!”

Art Omi Open Figure Drawing for Adults returns to the Sculpture & Architecture Park, Aug 5

Art Omi’s Open Figure Drawing for Adults gathers Wednesday evenings either outdoors in the Sculpture & Architecture Park or via Zoom sessions to sketch, draw, and render from a live model.

Open to artists of all skill levels ages 16+, each two-hour sessions is self-guided and intended to provide time and space for members of our local community to share in the exploration of this traditional art practice. Participants must supply their own materials. Click the session links below to register for the session. Please note that registration will be capped for live sessions in order to uphold social distancing protocols.

Open Figure Drawing for Adults at Art Omi, Starting December 5

Art Omi invites artists of all skill levels to meet in the Newmark Gallery on Thursday evenings to sketch, draw, and render from a live male or female nude model. Each two-hour sessions is self-guided and intended to provide time and space for members of our local community to share in the exploration of this traditional art practice. Omi will supply drawing boards, paper, and basic drawing pencils. Participants are encouraged to bring preferred tools and materials.
