Join the Columbia Land Conservancy and the Chatham Public Library for a three-part workshop on seed collection! Register for one workshop or all three.

These workshops will be held outside at the Chatham Public Library, so be sure to dress accordingly. Also, bring a notepad, garden gloves, smartphone (if you have one). Snacks and refreshments will be served. 

DATES/TIMES/LOCATIONS/DESCRIPTIONS:

Part 1 : Native Plant ID & Sustainable Seed Collection
August 16th, 7:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. @ Chatham Public Library (Rain date 8/18)
During this session we will go over plant identification basics and how to start out with ecologically safe and effective seed collection techniques.

Part 2 : Target Species ID & Volunteer Seed Collection Protocols
August 30th, 7:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. @ Chatham Public Library (Rain date 9/1)
This session will cover how to collect seeds from the Public Conservation Areas for the CLC Volunteer Seed Collection. Learn to ID our target list of restoration species and collect.

Part 3: Volunteer Seed Collection Field Workshop
September 13th, 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. @ Greenport Conservation Area (Rain date 9/15)
For our final workshop we will get a hands-on walk through of how to participate in the Volunteer Seed Collection Program. We will be taking a quick loop hike and collecting a few different species, so bring appropriate outdoor gear for walking off-trail.

DIFFICULTY LEVEL: Easy (all three)

COST/REGISTRATION: Free
Please register as soon as possible by emailing JJ Kathe at jj.kathe@clctrust.org – a limited number of participants will be allowed per event in keeping with COVID-19 safety precautions. Please include which volunteer event you would like to volunteer for in your email.

‘Night and Day, Love Lost and Found Through the Eyes of Cole Porter’ at The Theater Barn

The Theater Barn, in New Lebanon, presents Night and Day, Love Lost and Found Through the Eyes of Cole Porter, from August 5th to the 15th.

The Theater Barn, in New Lebanon, presents Night and Day, Love Lost and Found Through the Eyes of Cole Porter, now through August 15th. 

This show is much more than a musical revue as it tells an original story entirely through the lyrics of Cole Porter. His beloved songs are arranged into a romantic musical that will have you tapping your toes as you sing along. Taking place in a Berkshire’s mansion, circa 1930, we see how the love our couples feel at night creates an intricacy of relationship struggles for them the next day. Only the second production ever produced, this regional premiere is going to be ‘Too Darn Hot’ to miss.

Hudson Area Library w/ CLC Pollinator Patch & Art Walk at Greenport Conservation Area, Aug 5

The Hudson Area Library and the Columbia Land Conservancy present Pollinator Patch & Art Walk at Greenport Conservation Area, on Thursday, August 5, at 6pm.

The Hudson Area Library and the Columbia Land Conservancy present Pollinator Patch & Art Walk at Greenport Conservation Area, on Thursday, August 5, at 6pm.

Join Columbia Land Conservancy staff for a walk around their newly created Pollinator Patch and Art installation at
Greenport Conservation Area. We will discuss the types of flowers in the pollinator patch as well as how you at home can add plants to help out declining pollinator populations. We will then take a walk down to the “Step into Stillness” art installation by David McIntyre located along the trail. 

This program is part of the Library of Local pilot project, a new initiative from Climate Change HV and the Mid-Hudson Library System. The Library of Local initiative offers collections of essential wisdom, know-how, and tools for local self-sufficiency and community resilience. The project also provides a robust schedule of in-person and online educational events and workshops, all offered free of charge. The Library of Local theme for this year is Sow, Grow, Reap, Repeat! Gardening and Foraging for Resilience.
