Betsy Padamonsky leads the all star cast as Donna, revisiting a role she has performed on The National Tour and regionally. Broadway World said of her performance as Donna: “Padamonsky is quite the revelation in that she really brings her own interpretation… Padamonsky focuses on the lyrics and Donna’s motivation with each number showcasing her character’s independent streak.” We are so excited to have her with us.

Joining her are the magnificent Madison Stratton as Tanya. Our audiences will best remember her as The Lady of The Lake in last season’s hillarious SpamalotErin Spears and Kelly Gabrielle Murphyround out the wonderful women in our cast. Spears has been seen in numerous roles with us including Alice Beineke in Addams Family and Sister Mary Patrick in Sister Act. Murphy is well remembered as a beautiful Johanna in our haunting Sweeney Todd last season.

Three Mac-Haydn favorites return as the men of the piece. Gabe Belyeuas Sam, Colin Pritchard as Bill, and Steve Hassmer as Harry.

The inventive and high energy Bryan Knowlton directs and choreographs. A veteran of Mac-Haydn, Bryan’s directorial work includesLa Cage Aux Folles and last season’s Joseph and The Amazing Technicolor DreamcoatKevin Gleason designs the sets and Bethany Marx designs the costumes.

Monodic Flow (Field Totem), an Outdoor Art Installation in Hancock, MA

I was driving through Hancock, MA the other day, and saw an interesting art installation in a field at Hancock Shaker Village. The work is called Monodic Flow (Field Totem), by New York-based conceptual sculptor Marko Remec.

Monodic Flow features over 160 convex dome mirrors, 32 inches each, that “flow” over a 200-foot path down the hill.  The path of mirrors echoes the flow of water in the underground aqueducts that the Shakers laid in 1818 from a reservoir at the top of the hillside to the village below. Water then powered their machinery, supplied the laundry, and afterward drained into fields to water the cattle and livestock. Nothing was wasted by the Shakers, and the aqueduct is still in use today.

A monody is a song sung by a single voice. Early Shaker music was sung in unison without instrumental accompaniment, the voices of the community coming together to offer a single prayer to God. To Marko Remec, a conceptual sculptor, the Shakers’ presence in American history was like a lone melody against the bustle of society around them, spiritually and culturally.

Remec’s work has been shown at museums and sculpture parks such as MASS MoCA, LongHouse Reserve, Chesterwood – National Trust Historic Site, Museo de Arte de Ponce, Kunsthaus Zug, the Hudson Valley Center for Contemporary Art, the Nassau County Museum of Art and the Hancock Shaker Village, among other locales.

You can see Monodic Flow from Lebanon Mountain Road (Route 20) in Hancock. It’s across the street from the Shaker Village. You can park along the road, by the installation, and walk over to take a closer look. Monodic Flow is made possible by the generosity of Stephanie and Tim Ingrassia

DATES:
May – November, 2018

LOCATION:
34 Lebanon Mountain Rd.,
Hancock, MA 01237

This work is part of an exhibition titled, Altered Visions. The exhibit explores how the repurposing of objects or landscapes can change the way we view them. The exhibit also includes work by Henry Klimowicz, and Abelardo Morell. Henry Klimowicz uses cardboard to create organic sculptures that grow out of an inspired process. Abelardo Morell works with a camera obscura and shadows in the historic village to alter our perception of Shaker objects and a historic environment.

The Theater Barn Celebrates its 35th season in New Lebanon

The Theater Barn, in New Lebanon, opens this Friday (June 22nd), for its 2018 season, which is it’s 35th season!  The season kicks off with the comedy “The Nerd” by Larry Shue. Following the show the audience is invited to stay for a complimentary wine and hors d’oeuvres reception with the cast and crew to celebrate the 35th Season.

The 2018 season runs from Friday through the fall with plays, musicals, and the always popular Agatha Christie mystery.

2018 SCHEDULE:

June 22 through July 1- “The Nerd”
The action centers on the hilarious dilemma of a young architect who is visited by a man he’s never met but who saved his life in Vietnam—the visitor turning out to be an incredibly inept, hopelessly stupid “nerd” who outstays his welcome with a vengeance.

July 5 through July 22 – “Agatha Christie’s The Mousetrap”
Murder and mayhem ensue in the world’s longest running play by the foremost mystery writer of her time.

July 25 through August 5  – “Pump Boys and Dinettes”
The ‘Pump Boys’ sell high octane on Highway 57 and the ‘Dinettes’, run the Double Cupp diner next door. With heartbreak and hilarity they fashion an evening of country western songs that received unanimous raves on and off-Broadway.

August 9 through August 19 – “She Loves Me”
Set in a 1930s European perfumery, it is considered by many to be the most charming musical ever written. She Loves Me is a warm romantic comedy with an endearing innocence and a touch of old world elegance.

August 23 through September 2 – “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee”
Winner of the Tony and the Drama Desk Awards for Best Book, it has charmed audiences across the country with its effortless wit and humor.

September 7 through September 23 – “The Decorator”
Marcia returns to her flat to find it has not been painted. A part time painter is just beginning the work when the wife of the man with whom Marcia is having an affair arrives to tell all to her husband. Marcia hires the painter a part time actor, to impersonate her husband. Hilarity is piled upon hilarity as the painter, who takes his acting very seriously, portrays the absent husband.
