The library will be hosting a lively night of music from acclaimed jazz duo Atla and Matt DeChamplain. The couple will be joined by bassist Nat Reeves, who has spent nearly forty years performing jazz across the globe.

Pianist Matt DeChamplain has performed at numerous venues and festivals, including the Monterey Jazz Festival, the Berklee Jazz Festival, Kennedy Center, and Lincoln Center. Additionally, he teaches at the Jackie McLean Institute of Jazz at the Hartt School of Music. His wife, Atla DeChamplain, is a jazz vocalist who teaches at Western Connecticut University and Capital Community College. Both Matt and Atla are graduates of the University of Toledo, and in 2015, they released their first collaboration, PAUSE, featuring jazz artist Jon Hendricks.

The DeChamplains will be joined by bassist Nat Reeves, who has performed for nearly forty years in venues across the globe, and released his own jazz album, State of Emergency! in 2012. This past year alone, Nat has performed in India and Japan, at festivals in San Francisco, New Orleans, Detroit, and Atlanta, and at Lincoln Center.

Spencertown Academy’s ‘Art for the Academy’ art show kicks off with an Opening Reception on Saturday, January 11.

Eat, drink, be merry and support the Academy at this special opening of “Art for the Academy”, a fundraiser to bring us closer to our Building Restoration Campaign goals.

52 artists have generously donated work for this special event. With their generosity, 100% of all sales will go to help the Academy reach its fiscal destination. The prized works will hang at the Academy from January 11th through February 2nd.

Join Art Omi on Saturday, January 11, for the openings of two new installations with remarks from the exhibiting architects. Single-Handedly: Contemporary Architects Draw by Hand, and InConstruction: SO – IL.

Single-Handedly collects original drawings from a group of accomplished contemporary architects who, in an industry dominated by digital technologies, continue to work by hand. This exhibition is co-curated by Warren James, Director, Art Omi: Architecture; and Nalina Moses.

InConstruction: SO – IL presents a model of Site Verrier de Meisenthal (2015), a cultural center in an 18th century glass factory, composed of three independent, interrelated institutions.
