Hillsdale Historic House Tour Visits Future Historic Houses

Hillsdale’s Historic House Tour returns with a twist. This year the tour will visit six “future historic houses”: examples of exemplary 21st century design, and highly energy efficient and green building. The houses range from the boxy and sleek to a wood and window filled home with touches of whimsy and include a certified passive house, a net zero one and an energy-efficient pre-fab house.

A box lunch prepared by Simons Catering is included with the tour and will be served under a tent at the Roeliff Jansen Community Library, which is a green building. During lunch, architects from Hudson-based firm BarlisWedlick will present a talk: Classic and Modern: Designing homes in Columbia County for the 21st Century. Tours of the green features of the library, including solar panels, geothermal, light shelves and light tubes, will be available.

A Patron’s party will be held at a hilltop villa in Hillsdale from 5 pm to 7 pm on Sunday evening, August 13. This event honors the homeowners who opened their houses for the tour and purchasers of Patron tickets at $100 per person or Sponsor tickets at $150 per person are invited to attend. Designed by architect Dennis Wedlick of BarlisWedlick, with interiors by Matthew White of White Webb, Otium is inspired by the ancient houses of Italy with 21st century elements, making it a true modern villa and one of the future historic houses of Hillsdale.

Sponsor tickets include the tour, entry to the Patron’s Party and the sponsor’s name or business listed in all event material. For more information contact hillsdalehousetour@gmail.com.

The Hillsdale Historic House Tour is sponsored by Historic Hillsdale. Proceeds will go towards the preservation of the East Gate Toll House on Route 22 in Hillsdale and provide funding to repair and maintain some of the historic cemeteries in the town.

At Berkshire Botanical Garden: ‘PlayDate’ Designers Re-Imagine Play House Structures

Nine local designers and builders interpret play house structures for Berkshire Botanical Garden’s summer exhibition, “PlayDate: Playhouses in the Garden”.

The PlayDate structures vary in size and theme, from a medieval fortress, to an outdoor transparent “play room” and a cubed, mirrored structure. Other designs include a tree trunk transformed into a hobbit house, a 19th Century shepherd’s wagon, a tee-pee made of saplings, a sanctuary, and an antique aviary tea party. A permanent installation at the Garden, the Martha Stewart Cottage, received a makeover for the exhibition, transforming the traditional garden cottage into a wild woodland themed room inspired by the Garden’s own woodland trail. A total of 11 structures are included in the exhibition.

Every Room Has A View in This Hudson Valley Home

Imagine enjoying your morning coffee, or happy hour cocktail, with this as your view…

That’s just one of the views from a house that I recently listed in Gallatin, NY. It’s a Colonial style home that was built in 2007. The 2.25 acre property features panoramic views, and the house is situated at the top of a hill so the views span around the house, from the front to the back yard.

This 3 bedroom, 3 bathroom house features a two story foyer with wrap around staircase, living room, dining room, and great room with open floor plan kitchen/family room. The large master suite has two walk-in closets and a large bathroom with soaker tub, separate shower, and two sinks.

The house is located in the southern section of Columbia County, so it’s less than two hours from New York City. It’s also just a bike ride away from Lake Taghkanic State Park, and just a few minutes drive to Hudson and Red Hook

The house is offered at $269,000. If you’d like to see it in person, email me at Jmckinney@BeachandBartolo.com.
