Claverack Library Program – ‘Helping a Grieving Friend’

Claudia Coenen will lead a conversation about how to help someone who is grieving.

Claudia Coenen will lead a conversation about how to help someone who is grieving.

All of us experience grief at various times in our lives, and it is often challenging to know how to help someone else. How do we help a friend in need of support when someone they love dies? What do we say? What do we do?

Claudia Coenen, a certified grief counselor in Hudson, is the author of ‘Shattered by Grief: Picking up the Pieces to become WHOLE Again’, and the Karuna Cards, a deck of creative prompt cards for grief processing. After the death of her husband in 2005, she studied thanatology, the science of death, dying and bereavement, in an effort to understand how people grieve, and how we can help each other. Claudia has worked in hospice with patients and families, in a trauma center as an advocate and grief specialist, and welcomes clients who are coping with death, illness, divorce or other difficult life transitions.

Claudia Claudia has presented workshops and talks nationally on the uses of creative expression in grief counseling, as well as helping clinicians cope with secondary grief and the stresses of working in the field of grief and mental health.

Bring your questions; stay for refreshments.

Final Weekend of Our Town at Ghent Playhouse

It’s the final weekend of performances for Our Town at the Ghent Playhouse.

It’s the final weekend of performances for Our Town at the Ghent Playhouse.

Set in the fictional town of Grover’s Corners, Thornton Wilder’s masterpiece is narrated by a Stage Manager and performed with minimal props and sets, as the audience follows the Webb and Gibbs families, as their children fall in love, marry, and eventually – in one of the most famous scenes in American theater history – die.   The Ghent Playhouse is thrilled to present the playwright’s definitive version of Our Town, described by Edward Albee as “… the greatest American play ever written.”  Winner of the 1938 Pulitzer Prize for Drama.
