PS21 Nature Walk, Workshop & Concert – Resonant Mechanisms: The Experimental Music Tradition in Upstate New York – [Switch~ Ensemble], Nov 18

PS21: Performance Spaces for the 21st Century is hosting a Nature Walk, Workshop, and a Concert on Friday, November 18th.

Nature Walk
Explore hidden corners and unmarked trails of PS21’s 100 acres of meadows, woodlands, and rolling hills with artist Alison McNulty, including a visit to McNulty’s installation Hudson Valley Ghost Column 7, the first public art project commissioned by PS21. Ghost Column 7, a cylindrical tower of vintage bricks and unprocessed wool, engages imaginatively with PS21’s landscape as it weathers the changing seasons. McNulty writes that her work “emerges from an interdisciplinary perspective informed by natural sciences, archaeology, diverse writers and thinkers, and place-based research.” Participation is FREE and open to all ages. Wear hiking boots or sturdy shoes and dress with the weather in mind.

Participatory Music Workshop
[Switch~ Ensemble], Victoria Cheah, and Jen Kutler
In this participatory workshop the [Switch~ Ensemble] musicians and guest composers Victoria Cheah and Jen Kutler explore composition, experimental practices, and analog technology in their music, including Kutler’s musical sewing machines. Participation is FREE and open to all ages. Musicians are welcome to bring an instrument, though they are not necessary for participation. Anyone, with any level of musical experience, can participate or observe.

Somatic Embodiment and Yoga w/ Ashni & Sondra Loring at Sadhana, Nov 20

Sadhana Center for Yoga and Meditation, in Hudson, is hosting a workshop on Somatic Embodiment and Yoga with Ashni and Sondra Loring on November 20th.

This workshop will delve into the study and practice of embodiment, defined as a felt sense of self. It will touch upon the wealth of information from different sources, including Somatic Experiencing, Body-Mind-Centering, and breathing techniques, to validate and clarify your personal potential and strengths. Identifying boundaries, working with the nervous system, and finding more ease and efficiency within the muscles and joints can bring consciousness into our experience of our body. This leads to being comfortable in our own skin and a willingness to engage with life more fully.

About Ashni

Ashni, daughter of Cynthia and Allan, is a farmer, at Mumbet’s Freedom Farm, facilitator, educator and Somatic Experiencing Practitioner, born and raised in Brooklyn, NY with rich roots in the island of St. Vincent & The Grenadines.

Movement, music, healing and their expansion through meditation and love are essential keys to Ashni’s being. From early experiences with death, escapades in library stacks to discovering yoga and teachings with Buddhist monks in High School, Spirit has always piqued her curiosity and tickled her heart.

Working on and at the intersections of Earth based teaching and practices, wellness and environmental and social justice, Ashni facilitates 1-on-1 and group sessions, ceremonies, meditations and experiences permeated with love that cultivate radical awareness, appreciation of self and overall ecstatic wellness within participants and their community with the intention of re-cultivating a deep connection with our Earth mother.

About Sondra

i am a movement artist, educator and steward of a small botanical, bird, and fox sanctuary near Hudson, NY. i am drawn to the mystical, the poetic, to dirt, to rewilding, and to the daily rigorous investigation of somatic embodiment. i make dances and performances, am a yoga and somatic educator, share stories and overturn stones to see what’s underneath. i’m queering my community, teaching as a living, and radiant with the hope of meeting you all.
