Writer’s Hike at Bash Bish Falls, Jan 27, 2018

The first (of possibly three) Writer’s Hikes is Saturday, January 27, 2018. Hike to observe nature and then translate your observations and feelings into a writers nature journal. This is a casual course for teens and adults. Develop your skills with sensory detailed writing, add to your personal journal, or just for fun. The experience can help build writing skills to include more detail and focus for scholarly purposes. It can also add flavor to an already budding writer’s journaling habit.

The walk will be an open discussion of nature, with stops along the route for note taking. Half way through, the organizer, Danielle Kneller, will discuss and teach ways to translate the hiker’s notes and work with the writers. The group will also stop for a longer period of time to journal about the hike. Time will be left to share at the end.

Snowshoe Hike at Martin Van Buren Site

screen-shot-2017-02-23-at-2-08-28-pmThe Snowshoe Hike at the Martin Van Buren National Historic Site that was originally planned for January, was postponed to this Saturday (February 25). With the abnormally warm temperatures (66 in February) that we have been having, there may not be enough snow on the ground for the hike. Fortunately, the organizers already have a Plan B in place. If there is not enough snow on the ground, the program will be a letterbox challenge designed by last summer’s high school interns. Participants will be given instructions to find letters scattered throughout the park, and solve clues to locate the cache.

This activity involves walking over a mile on mostly flat grass. It is designed for ages 8 and up. Anyone 14 and under must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Saturday February 25, 2017 at 11am – 12:30pm
