PS21: Performance Spaces for the 21st Century, presents “Dance with the Mark Morris Dance Group” at Hudson’s Riverfront Park on August 3rd.

PS21 is teaming up with the Mark Morris Dance Group to present Dance with MMDG as part of Waterfront Wednesdays. Share in the genius of Mark Morris in this fun and participatory evening of movement that introduces our community to choreography from the most recent work in the Dance Group’s repertoire, Water, at Hudson’s Riverfront Park. Fun for the whole family, Dance with MMDG is taught by MMDG dancers and accompanied by live music.

Waterfront Wednesdays provide free family friendly programming at the Henry Hudson Riverfront Park in Hudson, NY from 5:30 PM to sunset. Beginning July 7 and running through September 1st, Waterfront Wednesdays feature musical performances, dance concerts, drum circles, boat excursions, educational programming, vendors, and more.

Hudson Eye 2021

The Hudson Eye is happening now, through Monday, September 6. in downtown Hudson. 

The Hudson Eye is an artist-driven 10-day annual public program and urban showcase, with a focus on dance, music, performance, film and visual art. This program, presented by the Jonah Bokaer Arts Foundation and arranged by curator Aaron Levi Garvey, aims to celebrate the arts community in Hudson and help stimulate creativity and connectivity. The Hudson Eye partners with local venues and also features daily “Hot Topics” talks that are free and open to the public, hosted by guest speakers whose professional affiliations represent the diversity of Hudson.

Spencertown Academy Virtual African American Dance Class For Families, Aug 22

Spencertown Academy Arts Center presents Elena Mosley teaching live, interactive African American dance via Zoom on Saturday, August 22 at 10am. Participants will experience traditional dance and improvisational movement, while connecting to African rhythmic music. This free event is the third in the Family Arts Kaleidoscope series, which is designed to engage children and their families from home. Participants should come to the class with a scarf or ribbon to hold in their hand. Registration is open to children ages 8 and up. Older family members are also welcome to participate. Registration is limited; please register at spencertownacademy.org.

“This class is going to be so much fun,” says Kelly Kynion, chair of the Family Arts Kaleidoscope Committee. “Elena Mosley is well known for her energy, her talent, and her community activism. We’re honored to have her joining us for this series.”

Elena MosleyElena Mosley, director and founder of Kuumba Dance and Drum, began her dance career in various community centers in New York City. She performed with the Lady Helena Walquer Dance Company of Harlem, NY, Brothers and Sisters United of Staten Island, and Haitian Dance Theater, under the direction of Louines Louinis. She participates in many cultural programs for Columbia, Greene, and the Capital Region schools and community arts programs. She is currently the executive director of the Operation Unite Education and Cultural Arts Center located in Hudson, NY.

The Family Arts Kaleidoscope virtual series continues on Saturday, September 19 at 10:00am, with a special pre-recorded program titled “It’s All About Reading!” featuring composer/ventriloquist Steve Charney and his puppet pal, Harry.

Family Arts Kaleidoscope is made possible with support from Hudson River Bank and Trust Foundation and Stewart’s Shops.

Founded in 1972, Spencertown Academy Arts Center is a cultural center and community resource serving Columbia County, the Berkshires, and the Capital region. Hudson Valley Dance Festival in Catskill, Oct 12

Hudson Valley Dance Festival will bring an all-embracing range of dance styles to the breathtaking banks of the Hudson River when it returns Saturday, October 12. Set amid the stunning foliage on the Hudson River, the sixth annual edition of the festival will again take place inside the transformed 125-year-old wooden warehouse at Historic Catskill Point.

The money raised at Hudson Valley Dance Festival helps provide grants to AIDS and family service organizations across the country, including 12 based in the Hudson Valley.

Over the event’s six years, Hudson Valley Dance Festival has raised $764,724. The money helps Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS provide grants to AIDS and family service organizations nationwide, including 13 based in the Hudson Valley: Albany Damien Center and Alliance for Positive Health in Albany, Animalkind, Columbia-Greene Community Foundation and Hudson Valley SPCA in Hudson, Matthew 25 Food Pantry and Community Hospice in Catskill, Hudson Valley Community Services in Hawthorne, Hudson Valley LGBTQ Community Center in Kingston, Rock Steady Farm in Millerton, Roe Jan Food Pantry in Hillsdale, TOUCH (Together Our Unity Can Heal) in Congers and Troy Area United Ministries in Troy.
