OMI Exhibit – Lois Dodd: Windows

Blue Sky Window, 1979
Oil on Linen

OMI International Arts Center presents an exhibition of works by the renowned and influential American painter Lois Dodd. The exhibit, which features the artist’s representational paintings of windows and doors, is open now.

Dodd was part of the wave of New York artists to explore the coast of Maine after the second World War, and spent many summers in the Mid-Coast region surrounding Penobscot Bay. The artist was attracted to the rambling old farm houses, verant fields, and bright sunshine of a summer’s day. For Dodd, being there provided her the freedom to concentrate of the depiction of rich vegetation and crumbling structures that make Maine so attractive, as seen in her works.

OMI Candlelight Concert w/ Kills to Kisses, February 18

8637322_origOMI International Arts Center presents a Candlelight Concert performance with Kills to Kisses, aka Lisa Dowling. The New York Times describes Dowling’s sound as “Bjork-like” and “innovative”.

Her music is bass-centric, but not in the ways you would expect; luscious, pulsating melodies soar over funky bass riffs and electronic drones creating a “brusquely subtle or exquisitely dense” (Inanna Naked) cinematic language that will beg of your hips. Her mastery of looping technology, “delicate, pure voice” (Woodstock Times), and serious chops create a veritable tour-de-force that is a breath of fresh air. Kills to Kisses has been presented at the Berkshire Fringe Festival, the Contagious Sounds Series and regularly performs in and around NYC.
