The Claverack Free Library announces the opening of an exhibition of still lifes by painter Nancy Hagin, a nationally known artist who lives locally and in New York City.

This is the second show in the library’s new Marilyn and Bob Laurie Foundation gallery space. Ms Hagin will be present at the opening this Saturday to discuss her work, so bring your questions and stay for refreshments.

Working in acrylic and watercolor, she is known for her lush hues, exploration of color symmetries and opulent patterns. Hagin received a BFA from Carnegie Mellon University and a MFA from Yale University. She has served as an instructor at the Maryland Institute of Art, Fashion Institute of Technology, Pratt Institute, Cooper Union and SUNY/Purchase in New York, and worked as a visiting artist/guest lecturer at the Rhode Island School of Design.

Hagin has been honored with a Fulbright Grant, two grants from the National Endowment for the Arts and awards from the National Academy of Design and the American Academy of Arts and Letters. Her work has been shown at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; DeCordova Museum and Sculpture Park, Lincoln, Mass.; Brandeis University, and the Art in Embassies Program of the U.S. State Department among others. She showed for many years at the Alpha Gallery in Boston and the Fischbach Gallery in New York City. Since 1983, she has maintained a house and studio in Glenco Mills.

Spencertown Academy Juried Regional Art Exhibition

Spencertown Academy Arts Center presents its fifth annual Regional Juried Art Show. On Sunday, October 7, there will be an opening reception, and the exhibit will remain on display through October 28.

Spencertown Academy Arts Center presents its fifth annual Regional Juried Art Show. On Sunday, October 7, there will be an opening reception, and the exhibit will remain on display through October 28.

This year’s theme is “Light and Shadow: the Artist’s Eye, Perceptions, and Choices” and the guest juror is Bruce Bergmann. Bergmann, received a B.F.A. from the Rhode Island School of Design and an M.F.A. from Pratt Institute. He went on to work with galleries in SoHo, Chelsea, and the Upper East Side, all while doing his own studio work. In 2003, he opened his own gallery, BCB ART on Warren Street in Hudson, New York. Bergmann has devoted himself to showing the work of international, national, and regional artists. He has extensive experience as a jurist in the Hudson Valley.
