The Grey Gardens Estate is for Sale

screen-shot-2017-02-10-at-3-45-19-pm

Grey Gardens, the East Hampton house made famous in the 1975 documentary about Jackie Kennedy Onassis’s relatives, is on the market. In the documentary, Grey Gardens was the decrepit, and rundown home of Onassis’ aunt Edith Bouvier Beale and her cousin, Edith Beale. Little Edie sold the house in 1979 to former Washington Post Executive Editor Ben Bradlee and his wife, journalist Sally Quinn, who restored the house from it’s dilapidated condition.

The three-story, shingle-style home was built in 1897. It’s approximately 6,000 square feet and situated on 1.7 acres. The home has seven bedrooms and 6 1/2 bathrooms, and a guest house.

Here’s some more info from the listing on Corcoran.com:

Situated near Lily Pond Lane and Georgica Beach, this one of a kind compound is approximately two acres and is a stone throw to the ocean. The property has been restored with an eye to history and lovingly maintained for the past 40 years. The spacious main house features 8 bedrooms and 6 1/2 baths and plenty of spaces for year round entertaining. Tucked away in the lush and elaborate gardens is a charming stucco cottage, heated gunite pool and an irreplaceable Har-Tru Tennis court.

Hudson Opera House Exhibit, ‘No Parking: The Alleys and Garages of Hudson’

noparking_web_featured-470x260There’s an interesting photography exhibit at the Hudson Opera House right now. ‘No Parking: The Alleys and Garages of Hudson’ features three local artists, Lisa Durfee, William Hellermann, and Peter Spear, and their photographs that capture the hidden beauty in Hudson over the past 20 years.

“While major roads such as  Warren Street offer a panoply of architectural spectacle to enjoy, No Parking tells the story of those small streets that run parallel to the larger thoroughfares, and the hidden barns, garages, storehouses, and studios nestled along them.”

OMI Candlelight Concert w/ Kills to Kisses, February 18

8637322_origOMI International Arts Center presents a Candlelight Concert performance with Kills to Kisses, aka Lisa Dowling. The New York Times describes Dowling’s sound as “Bjork-like” and “innovative”.

Her music is bass-centric, but not in the ways you would expect; luscious, pulsating melodies soar over funky bass riffs and electronic drones creating a “brusquely subtle or exquisitely dense” (Inanna Naked) cinematic language that will beg of your hips. Her mastery of looping technology, “delicate, pure voice” (Woodstock Times), and serious chops create a veritable tour-de-force that is a breath of fresh air. Kills to Kisses has been presented at the Berkshire Fringe Festival, the Contagious Sounds Series and regularly performs in and around NYC.
