Chatham Brewing Launches Main Street Kitchen

Chatham Brewing just announced the creation of Main Street Kitchen on their FaceBook page. This new, in-brewery dining option will launch on Thursday at Chatham Brewing’s Main Street location in the village of Chatham.

Main Street Kitchen will feature a variety of small and large plates of Asian fusion cuisine designed and developed by the People’s Pub, also based on Main Street in Chatham. Entrée options include a Korean pulled pork sandwich, pork belly sliders, wonton nachos, and Korean wings, among the options available.

Main Street Kitchen will operate each day that Chatham Brewing is open, with the kitchen closing one hour before the tasting room bar. Chatham Brewing has made recent improvements to the tasting room experience, with a new color scheme, furniture, and fixtures.

Prior to this announcement, the food at Chatham Brewing’s tasting room had been provided by Grazin’, the farm-to-table restaurant located on Warren Street in Hudson.

Plays in Progress & Hudson Hall Present Taking a Stand

Plays in Progress and Hudson Hall present Taking a Stand, an afternoon of staged readings of short pieces written and produced by the playwrights, actors, and directors of Plays in Progress.

Plays in Progress (PIP) was launched in 2009 by a small group of professional actors, writers, and directors.  For the past eight years, PIP has met monthly at the historic Hudson Opera House to read and discuss each writer’s current works-in-progress. Every year, PIP produces a Gala to benefit Hudson Hall, consisting of original short plays developed during the monthly meetings.

Taking a Stand, written by Ellen Clarkson, Mel Cobb Jr., Christopher Conant, Lucile Lichtblau, Byron Nilsson, Marcia Slatkin, and Jesse Waldinger, features never-before performed plays about different forms of love; fear of commitment; William Shakespeare’s improbable gentlemanly aspirations; the turning point of the Dreyfus Affair; a contest between hummus-makers, and more. Proceeds from Taking a Stand will benefit Hudson Hall.

Memorial Day 2017

Memorial Day is a federal holiday in the United States, which is set aside for remembering the people who died while serving in the country’s armed forces. The holiday originated as Decoration Day in 1868, after the Civil War when the Grand Army of the Republic, an organization of Union veterans founded in Decatur, Illinois, established it as a time for the nation to decorate the graves of the Union soldiers with flowers. By the 20th century, competing Union and Confederate holiday traditions, celebrated on different days, had merged, and Memorial Day eventually extended to honor all Americans who died while in the military service.

Memorial Day is also the unofficial start of the summer season. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like the weather got that memo for Columbia County.

Whatever your plans for the day (and beyond)  include, if you know a veteran who is struggling with life, please call the Veterans Crisis Line, 1-800-273-8255.
