The Garden Conservancy invites you to visit two beautiful gardens of Columbia County on view in Canaan and Spencertown on Sunday, August 1.

Rockland Farm – The garden comprises a variety of areas that flow one from another over about ten acres of our property. A 450-foot-long rock ledge runs parallel to the front drive and is topped by a dry garden in silver, gray and blue, with a thyme walk along one edge. Raised areas on the west side of the house feature exotic and tropical plants, many in containers. Behind the house is a sequence of garden rooms: a lavender garden contained within a raised hornbeam hedge; a perennial garden in pastels surrounding our pool; a water garden, fronted by a white garden and with a shade garden and rhododendron walk behind; a hot sundial and rock garden; and a fenced vegetable and cutting garden.

Landscape of Linda B. Horn – The restoration of my landscape has been the goal for fifteen years of living here after a move from Chicago. There are four restored ecosystems: wetlands, waterfall, domestic area of native grasses, and woodland. The last section of restoration was started last fall with eliminating dead trees and then new seeding. This year goldenrod was weed-wacked and new trees planted. The landscape was featured in a five-page article in the September 2017 issue of New York Cottages & Gardens. Native restoration workshops have also been held here through the Columbia Land Conservancy, Spencertown Academy, and Berkshire Botanical Garden.

Orpheus Chamber Orchestra with Special Guests Caleb Teicher & Company at PS21, Jul 24

PS21: Performance Spaces for the 21st Century, presents Orpheus Chamber Orchestra with Special Guests Caleb Teicher & Company, on July 24th.

PS21: Performance Spaces for the 21st Century, presents Orpheus Chamber Orchestra with Special Guests Caleb Teicher & Company, on July 24th.

Orpheus’ 34 member musicians work together as a collective and rotate leadership roles for all works performed, giving flight to unconventional interpretations. This democratic structure also extends to organizational functions including programming and governance: the orchestra elects three members to Artistic Director positions and three to the Board of Trustees.

Caleb Teicher is a NYC-based dancer and choreographer specializing in musically-driven dance traditions and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Teicher began their career as a founding member of Michelle Dorrance’s critically acclaimed tap dance company, Dorrance Dance, while also freelancing in contemporary dance (The Chase Brock Experience, The Bang Group), Lindy Hop (Syncopated City Dance Company), and musical theater (West Side Story International Tour and London).

As a solo performer and collaborator, Teicher is known for choreographic collaborations with diverse musical talents: world-champion beatboxer Chris Celiz, composer/pianist Conrad Tao; the National Symphony Orchestra, and indie rock legends Ben Folds and Regina Spektor.

In 2015, Caleb shifted their creative focus towards Caleb Teicher & Company, a creative home for incubating new concert dance works from Teicher’s unique perspective.

Toronto-based percussionist Britton-René Collins finds passion in the art of contemporary percussion performance. A winner of the 2020 Concert Artists Guild Victor Elmaleh Competition, Britton-René has dedicated her artistry to shaping a more inclusive community for all musicians to thrive in equally. She was awarded the Ambassador Prize for exceptional musicianship and demonstrating an active commitment to creating social change through her music. She recently launched a blog where she discusses her experiences in facing various challenges as a minority musician.

Britton-René actively expands her knowledge and skills in a vast pool of contrasting genres, which she believes enhances her musicianship and performance techniques. Her experience includes studies of classical, contemporary, global, and new music.
