The Hudson Area Library presents Living Poetry at the Library – an annual poetry reading with Fence, and The Home School. This year’s featured poets are Tess Brown-Lavoie, Edgar Garcia, and Ariana Reines.

The Hudson Area Library presents Living Poetry at the Library tomorrow. This
annual poetry reading is an ongoing collaboration with Fence, a 20 year old, nationally renowned literary journal published in Hudson and The Home School, a poetry conference that takes place in Hudson every summer and which brings more than 60 poets to town to meet, study, read, and write. This year’s featured poets are Tess Brown-Lavoie, Edgar Garcia, and Ariana Reines.

Tess Brown-Lavoie writes and farms in Providence, RI. Lite Year, her first book, won the Fence Modern Poets Series prize. Tess co-founded Sidewalk Ends Farm with her sisters in 2011, works on land access at Land For Good, and is President of the National Young Farmers Coalition.

Edgar Garcia was born in California to a family of Central American extraction. He is a
Neubauer Family Assistant Professor at the University of Chicago, and works in the fields of indigenous and Latinx studies, American literature, poetry and poetics, and environmental criticism. His collection of poems and anthropological essays, Skins of Columbus: A Dream Ethnography, won the 2018 Fence Modern Poets Series award.

Ariana Reines is an American poet, playwright, performance artist, and translator. Her books of poetry include The Cow, which won the Alberta Prize from Fence Books; Coeur de Lion; Mercury; and A Sand Book. She has taught at UC Berkeley, Columbia University, The New School, and Tufts University.

This Saturday, there will be an Open House & Dedication of a new historical marker of the Mills at Green Hole.

Step back in time & visit a historic 1700’s water-powered mill complex – including a saw mill, cider mill, blacksmith and woodworking shop – all powered by the on-site stream & Waterfalls!

The Mills at Green Hole are a fully operational small complex of historic water mills set amidst the beauty of the iconic Hudson Valley, 2 miles South of The Village of Philmont, New York. The mills are currently home to a water powered sawmill, cider mill, woodworking shop and blacksmith/machine shop.

PS21: Performance Spaces for the 21st Century, presents ‘Just for Fun – West African Dance and Drum Performance’, this Friday.

Choreographer/dancer Jamal Jackson, with members of his company will join the kids from the dance and drum workshop to sweep us up in a high energy display of West African dance and drumming from Mali. This performance is an annual favorite and is not to be missed!

Cleremont State Historic Site presents ‘In the Key of C: a Concert for Clermont’, a benefit concert to fund Clermont’s low and zero cost educational and community programs for both children and adults.

Renowned singer/songwriter Teddy Thompson will headline this inaugural event. Son of legendary musicians Richard and Linda Thompson, he has been called “one of the most gifted singer-songwriters of his generation,” by The New York Times. His musical influences include Elvis Presley, Chuck Berry, and the Everly Brothers. Teddy has released five albums to critical acclaim and has collaborated on projects with Rufus and Martha Wainwright, Jenni Muldaur, and others. He recorded two solo songs for the soundtrack to the Leonard Cohen tribute I’m Your Man: “Tonight Will be Fine” and “The Future.” Teddy also contributed two songs to the album The Songs of Nick Drake: Way to Blue, a retrospective on the late singer.

This is an outdoor concert; in case of rain, the concert will be held under a tent. This benefit concert will fund Clermont’s low and zero cost educational and community programs for both children and adults, including Harvesting History, History Comics Club, the Harmonies on the Hudson Concert Series, workshops, lectures, and more.
