Hudson Hall is hosting a New Virtual Event, ‘Close Readings in a Virtual Space’. Read through Jay Wright’s poem “The Homecoming Singer” together with poet Rigoberto Gonzáles and others taking part.

Rigoberto Gonzáles, one of our favorite poets, will lead this intimate, virtual group read-through of Jay Wright’s poem “The Homecoming Singer.” Neither teaching nor explaining, Rigoberto will serve as your expert tour-guide to explore this poem as a group. Whether you are already well-versed in the close reading of poems, or have never been quite sure you’ve been “getting it,” this “close reading in a virtual space” will provide a digital gathering for everyone to take a refreshing deep dive into this single poem.

The event will last about an hour, and will conclude with a brief reading of poetry by our special guest poet.

This is a challenging time for all of us, but poetry offers us a fortifying focus. Talking through a poem together with a group of fellow readers just might provide a bit of the balm we all need.

DATE/TIME: Thursday, May 14, 4:00 pm – 5:00 pm

COST: Free

The History of Hudson’s Merchants & Whalers by Carl Whitbeck, part of the Hudson Area Library’s Local History Speaker series and being done in collaboration with Hudson Hall as part of their Hudson’s Merchants & Whalers series, will cover the commerce of Hudson from the time of its inception as a city in 1785 to the early 1960’s and through to the present. Mr. Whitbeck, a local resident whose family has deep roots in the area, will be displaying and discussing items from his own extensive local history collection.

Established by whalers and merchants from Nantucket, Massachusetts and Providence, Rhode Island, Hudson has had many incarnations: as a safe harbor for maritime commerce, an industrial city with foundries, mills, cement plants, and factories; and now as a vibrant, artistic city who values its historic architecture, working with its diverse community to decide how it should be defined now and into the future.

Hudson Hall Announces Winners of the 2018 Winter Walk Window Decorating Contest

Hudson Hall is proud to announce the winners of the 2018 Winter Walk Window Decorating Contest.

Hudson, NY: Hudson Hall is proud to announce the winners of the 2018 Winter Walk Window Decorating Contest. Now in its 20th year, the contest celebrates the creativity and ingenuity of Hudson’s independent retailers, restaurants and galleries on the eve of the city’s largest, liveliest and most colorful event of the year.

The ‘Best Overall’ prize is awarded to FINCH Hudson. Created by luxury fashion leader Andrew Arrick (whose resume boasts work for design houses Yves Saint Laurent, Celine, Carolina Herrera and Vera Wang), and husband Michael Hofemann, FINCH Hudson’s window features two festive scenes reflecting heaven and earth with a distinctly upstate style.

The ‘Best Newcomer’ award goes to fashion, accessories, and contemporary art retailer Mikel Hunter, who opened a second location of his Martha’s Vineyard in Hudson last year. Hunter’s window brings rock’n’roll to the holidays with stylishly dressed characters and a festive bow-covered motorcycle.
