FilmColumbia 2022, Oct 21 – 30

The Crandell Theatre presents The 23rd Annual FILMCOLUMBIA, film festival, from Friday, October 21 to Sunday, October 30.

The Crandell Theatre presents the Annual FilmColumbia film festival, from Friday, October 21 to Sunday, October 30.

FilmColumbia, Columbia County’s premier annual cultural event, will screen the very best–and the latest–national and international films from October 21 – 30, 2022. Once the Crandell Theatre’s “little local festival that could,” FilmColumbia is now an acclaimed, nationally recognized film event.

In addition to screening festival favorites from acclaimed directors, this year FilmColumbia will once again feature special panels and events with filmmakers, a popular screenwriting workshop, and a children’s international film festival of shorts that is free to the community.

“There are so many marvelous aspects to this year’s festival,” says Laurence Kardish, the festival’s co-artistic and co-executive director with Peter Biskind. “The number of extraordinary films by women, the number of award winners, and the broad range of programs from the most intimate of dramas to the most spectacular of blockbusters make this a festival of festivals.”

The Rooted Voyageurs are doing three performances of their production, The Witching Hour, on October 15 and 16.

The veil between the worlds of the living and the dead is thinning, when a witch comes to communicate with the dead about a local tragedy, more is revealed than meets the eye. Join The Rooted Voyageurs for their production of The Witching Hour. The Witch (Devante Owens) will tell a chilling story inspired by local lore about the Hoosac Tunnel, written by Luke Haskell. Following the performance, there will be a spooky open mic! Put your name in a hat and be chosen to tell a story of your own.

The performance will run 45 minutes (followed by the open mic) and is free to the public. Seating is limited and on a first come first serve basis.

The Rooted Voyageurs is a theater company, founded by Devante Owens (Artistic Director) and Zoe Wohlfeld (Managing Producer), whose mission is art without admission. They believe everyone should have access to empathic, joyful and entertaining stories, and that live theater is more captivating when people from all walks of life are on stage and in the audience. Their performances are free to the public.

Hudson Area Library Presents Tales from Hudson’s Crypts: Tour w/ Kelley Drahushuk, Oct 23

The Hudson Area Library presents the fifth anniversary tour of Cedar Park Cemetery, Tales from
Hudson’s Crypts: The Tour on Sunday, October 23.

The Hudson Area Library presents the fifth anniversary tour of Cedar Park Cemetery, Tales from
Hudson’s Crypts: The Tour on Sunday, October 23.

Kelley Drahushuk’s talk at the library, Raising the Dead: Tales from Hudson’s Crypts, was so
popular that this tour was created and it has become an annual event. Kelley once again acts as tour
guide.

Long-touted as “a virtual treasure trove for historians and enthusiasts of American funerary art”,
the Hudson Cemetery includes over 10,000 grave sites for a wide range of interesting and
notable individuals, including the Proprietors and their ancestors, war heroes, famous artists,
paragons of industry, disaster survivors and much more. Learn about the history of the original
cemetery, more recent history and discoveries as well as its current layout.

Kelley Drahushuk is a long-time resident of Hudson, NY with family history in the city dating
back to the 1800s. She, along with her husband Alan, own The Spotty Dog Books and Ale, now
in its 17 th year of operation on Hudson’s Warren Street in the former CH Evans Hook & Ladder
building. She has served on the board of the Hudson Area Library and continues as a member of
the History Room Committee. She earned a BS from Rochester Institute of Technology in
Industrial Engineering. Two adorable children, a very chill cat, and two bossy guinea pigs keep
her quite busy.

Donations are appreciated but not required and they will support the archiving of the library’s
History Room collection based on the history of Hudson, Greenport and Stockport.

As this is a walking tour, wear appropriate footwear & dress for the weather & conditions. We may encounter uneven ground, semi-steep hills, and mud and will not always be sticking to the paved pathways. Attendees will meet in the cemetery office parking lot promptly at 12pm.
